Due to the greenhouse effect, if a car is left outside in the sun with a temperature of about 40 degrees Celsius like today, the temperature inside the cabin can “burn” up to 65-70 degrees Celsius. With such high temperatures, combined with direct sunlight, many objects left in the car can be damaged, deformed, or even explode.
In fact, there have been cases all over the world, including Vietnam, where objects such as lighters, fire extinguishers, or soft drinks have exploded in cars when parked under the sun. This not only damages the interior of the car but also poses a high risk of fire.

Therefore, experts recommend that when parking a car under the sun, the following objects should be immediately removed or placed in a safe position to avoid direct sunlight.
1. Lighters, mini fire extinguishers, drinks with gas
A gas lighter is known as a “slow bomb” if left on the car. The gas inside the lighter easily expands when exposed to high temperatures, leading to the risk of explosion. The consequence is that some parts of the car can be damaged, or even cause a fire. Therefore, when parking under the hot sun with high temperatures, it is necessary to remove lighters from the car.
Similarly, with mini fire extinguishers, drinks with gas or perfume, the liquid inside can expand significantly when exposed to intense sunlight and high temperatures, leading to the risk of explosion (metal shell) and causing damage and inconvenience to the car owner.
To minimize risks, experts recommend immediately removing drinks with gas, perfume bottles, etc. from the car. In case the mini fire extinguisher must be placed inside the car, choose positions that do not directly expose to sunlight such as the trunk, door pockets, or under the seats. Do not place it on the dashboard or near the windows.
2. Bottled water
Plastic water bottles are commonly placed in cars in positions such as on the seat, in the console area, and even many people place them directly on the dashboard. Experts warn that water in plastic bottles can undergo chemical changes when left under direct sunlight, which can be toxic to the human body.
Even more dangerous, water bottles can focus sunlight and turn it into a strong beam similar to a converging lens. This beam of light can be strong enough to cause materials such as leather or plastic that it shines on to burn, leading to a high risk of fire.
Therefore, the safest position to place water bottles in the car is in the trunk or in the storage area behind the back seats. Absolutely do not leave water bottles on the dashboard when parking outside in the sun.
3. Plastic and rubber objects
At high temperatures, plastic or rubber objects such as gloves, rubber sandals, tapes, etc. can deform, be damaged, and affect other parts of the car. In addition, plastic objects such as sunglasses, CDs, DVDs, plastic boxes, etc. can become brittle and more easily damaged when exposed to the sun.
4. Electronic devices
According to experts, leaving electronic devices such as phones, cameras, laptops, etc. in the car will affect their lifespan. At temperatures up to 65-70 degrees Celsius, the components inside these devices are very prone to damage or even melt. For example, leaving a camera in a car on a hot summer day can cause the lens and memory card to become ineffective.
Electronic devices left in a car under the hot sun are easily damaged due to the high temperature.
Therefore, it is necessary to minimize leaving electronic devices in the car for a long time under the hot sun. Even with dashcams, if the car has to be parked outside in the sun, it should be removed and stored in a cool place to ensure the lifespan of the device.
5. Cosmetics, medicines, food
Many people, especially women, have a habit of carrying cosmetics, sunscreen creams, and various types of medicine in the car. However, the fact is that most cosmetics and medicines are best preserved at temperatures below 20 degrees Celsius. With temperatures above 50 degrees Celsius like in a car, most cosmetics quickly deteriorate, become ineffective, and even harmful to the human body.
Similarly, with food such as cakes, candies, chocolates, when exposed to high temperatures, they will deteriorate, emit unpleasant odors, and melt, resulting in poor hygiene. Therefore, these types of items need to be paid attention to and removed from the car when it is hot outside.
