Choose durians that have a dark brown color, beautiful skin, and feel firm when touched. If you want to eat them immediately, make sure they are not squashed or damaged. If you are buying in bulk, choose durians that are still green but have some red spots on the skin. Green durians with red spots are ripe but not fully ripe, so you can buy them and they will be ready to eat in 2 to 3 days.
Many people believe that durians with yellow pus on the outside are good, but according to the owner of the orchard, that is just the pus of the fruit and not an indicator of good quality.
Choose dark-colored durians if you want to eat them immediately.
When choosing durians, choose ones that are round and medium-sized. Do not choose ones that are too big because they have thick skin and less flesh. Choose ones that are round, fit in your hand like a golf ball. At the bottom of the fruit, there is a flower shape, and each petal represents a segment.
To check the ripeness of the durian, press the skin to determine if it is ripe or not. The durian skin is very thick, so pressing it firmly will not affect the flesh inside. Press all around the fruit and if you feel it is soft and easy to press, it is ripe and not damaged. If it feels hard when pressed, it means it is not ripe yet. Or if you feel both soft and hard areas, and the hardness is to the point where it cannot be pressed, it is likely that the spot has been stung by insects.
