As reported by Dân trí, starting from December 2023, Google will begin deleting all unused Gmail accounts that have not been accessed for at least 2 years. The deletion process will be carried out in stages, starting with Gmail accounts that have been created but never used, followed by accounts that have not been logged in for the past 2 years.
“If a Google account is not used or logged in for a minimum of 2 years, the personal account and its contents will be deleted,” Google announced.

It is worth noting that not only will the Gmail accounts be deleted, but other Google services associated with these accounts, such as Drive, Photos, Calendar, etc., will also be removed, meaning that all data stored by users on these Google services will be completely lost.
Google’s move aims to save system resources, as many Gmail accounts have not been used for a long time, but still contain a significant amount of data on Google’s servers.
In addition, accounts that have not been logged in for a long time can easily become targets for hackers (since users do not activate the security mechanisms for these accounts), allowing hackers to use the Gmail accounts to distribute malware or serve fraudulent purposes.
What to do to prevent your Gmail account from being deleted next month?
To prevent your Gmail account from being deleted during Google’s “cleaning” process, the simplest way is to immediately log in to your Gmail account starting from today. This way, Google will remove your email from the list of inactive accounts and will not delete it in this round.
Each Gmail account is provided with 15GB of free online storage by Google. In case you do not use the Gmail service, you can still utilize this 15GB of storage to store important data, as a precautionary measure in case your computer’s hard drive is damaged and you lose the stored data on it.
