Here are some simple yet effective methods to prevent potatoes from sprouting:

1. Use a black plastic bag

Potatoes require light for photosynthesis. By storing them in a black plastic bag, wooden box, or cardboard box, and placing them in a dark and cool location, potatoes can be stored for up to six months. This prevents them from sprouting.

2. Store in the refrigerator

After purchasing potatoes, tightly wrap each potato in plastic wrap and place them in the refrigerator. Potatoes require specific temperature conditions to sprout, and they will not sprout when stored at temperatures below 1 degree Celsius. Therefore, storing them in the refrigerator is an effective method.

3. Use baking soda to remove moisture

This step can be used in conjunction with step 1. Sprinkle a few tablespoons of baking soda evenly into a cardboard box or a black bag, then place the potatoes in it. Baking soda absorbs moisture in the air, helping to preserve the potatoes for a longer period.
