Everyone loves a sharp knife that can easily chop any food, quickly. Cooking is already a multi-step process and having a dull knife, having to struggle to chop the food, can be really frustrating and time-consuming. Not to mention, using a dull knife can also make the food mushy and less appealing.

If your knife is dull, you can use a knife sharpening tool to hone it and make it sharper. However, in case you don’t have a sharpening tool in the kitchen or your sharpening tool is broken, what can you do to bring back the sharpness of your knife? Just grab a porcelain cup, it will be your lifesaver in an instant.

Did you know, the outer bottom part of the cup is harder than metal, and it can be used as a knife sharpening tool, helping your knife become sharp again. All you need to do is flip the cup upside down, place the knife on the edge of the bottom part, forming a 15 to 20-degree angle with the cup’s edge.

The process is as follows: Move each side of the knife blade in one direction from top to bottom about 10 to 15 times. Then, do the same with the other edge of the knife blade. Repeat a few more times within a 30-second time frame. This method will create symmetry for both sides of the blade so the knife will work efficiently. In just 30 seconds, the knife will cut a potato easily just like you slice a tomato.

However, this method will remove some of the knife’s metal, so you should only apply it to knives that are not too expensive.
