Laundry Machine Cleaning Tablets/Powder: What Are They and How Do They Work?
These two products, available in either powder or tablet form, are designed to clean your washing machine. They contain detergents that promise to remove stains, as well as built-up calcium and magnesium deposits from the drum. According to instructions, all you need to do is drop the tablet or powder into the machine and run a normal or cleaning cycle for instant results.
Advertisements claim that these products can do everything from removing tough stains to cleaning accumulated dirt and grime from the drum. They are also said to disinfect and deodorize, inhibiting mold and bacterial growth, and eliminating 99% of odor-causing bacteria. Additionally, they are touted to help clean the drain pipe of your washing machine.
In reality, most cleaning tablets available on the market are not very strong. They tend to work best on machines that are already fairly clean and well-maintained. If your washing machine hasn’t been cleaned in a while, these tablets may not be able to remove all the built-up dirt and grime.
That being said, here’s an image of what these tablets typically look like:
How to Properly Use Laundry Machine Cleaning Tablets/Powder
To get the most out of these cleaning products, follow these steps:
– Ensure the drum is empty. Don’t wash clothes, socks, or bedding along with the tablet/powder, as this will cause dirt and bacteria to stick to your laundry instead of being flushed out.
– Set your machine to use warm water, ideally between 40 and 50 degrees Celsius, for better cleaning. If your machine doesn’t have a warm water setting, you can still use cold water.
– Directly add the tablet/powder into the drum, or soak it in warm water (40-60 degrees Celsius) to speed up dissolution before adding it to the machine.
– Start any wash cycle, then pause the machine after it has filled with water. Let the tablet/powder soak for 30-60 minutes.
– Resume the cycle and let the machine complete the wash.
– After cleaning, wipe the drum with a soft cloth. Leave the lid open to air-dry the interior and prevent the growth of bacteria and mold.
Note: For machines over 7kg, use two tablets/a double dose of powder. For machines under 7kg, one tablet/the regular dose of powder is sufficient.
It is recommended to clean your washing machine with these products once a month. Do not overuse or deviate from the recommended frequency. For extremely dirty machines with stubborn stains, you may need to repeat the cleaning process 2-3 times to achieve the desired level of cleanliness.
