Displaying pomelo bonsai trees during the Tet holiday has become a popular choice for many families. However, these trees can be quite expensive, and it would be a waste to discard them after just a few days. To ensure your bonsai tree bears fruit in time for the next Tet holiday, follow these steps:
1. Remove all fruits from the tree

After the holiday, before replanting the tree, remove all remaining fruits so that the tree can focus its nutrients on growth rather than fruit production. Also, remove any weak or diseased branches.
2. Replant the tree in the ground

Pomelo bonsai trees are typically sold in pots, but to provide additional nutrients, replant the tree in the ground. Prepare a mixture of soil, compost, rice husks, and decomposed fertilizer, and expose it to sunlight for 7-10 days to eliminate any potential diseases. Choose a spot with good drainage, a pH level between 5.5 and 6, and adequate sunlight. Dig a hole, replant the tree, and water it daily to maintain moisture.
3. Fertilize the tree

About 10-15 days after replanting, start fertilizing the tree. You can use organic fertilizers like Supagro or Wehg, or purchase acid Humic to mix with water and pour around the tree’s base. Repeat this process every 15 days to strengthen the roots and increase the tree’s resistance. Additionally, apply Trichoderma, a beneficial fungus, every three months, and use Chitosan, a biological preparation, to prevent leaf yellowing and root rot.
After three months, start using NPK 16-16-8 fertilizer at a rate of 20-30g per application, once a month. Gradually increase the amount to 50g per application, and when the tree is over a year old, apply 100g per application around the base to provide extra nutrients.
