Reasons Why Your Refrigerator is Hot to the Touch
The compressor of a refrigerator is installed on either side. During operation, the refrigerant circulates in the pipes on both sides and dissipates heat outward. This causes the outer shell of the refrigerator to heat up.
When the sides of the refrigerator are cool, it indicates that the compressor is in standby mode. When the compressor becomes active again, it will heat up.
Additionally, if the indoor temperature is high, especially during the summer, the compressor has to work longer to cool down, causing the sides of the refrigerator to become warmer.
For new refrigerators, it is normal for the sides to heat up.
How to Address the Issue of a Hot Refrigerator
Firstly, ensure that the refrigerator is placed in an area that does not receive direct sunlight. Moreover, avoid positioning it near a stove or any other heat-emitting appliances.
Maintain a gap between the sides and back of the refrigerator and the surrounding walls or objects to allow for heat circulation and dissipation. A distance of 10 to 15 cm from the wall is recommended.
Refrain from placing items on top of the refrigerator. Do not store carbonated drinks in the freezer as they may explode when frozen.
It is advisable to store a certain amount of food in the refrigerator. Too little food will cause the refrigerator to cool down slowly and waste energy, while too much food will lead to constant operation, resulting in high energy consumption and potential malfunction.
Frequently opening the refrigerator door or keeping it open for extended periods will alter the internal temperature, requiring the refrigerator to work harder to cool down, which may result in a hotter exterior.
Only place leftover food in the refrigerator once it has cooled to room temperature.
Regularly clean your refrigerator to maintain hygiene and optimize its performance.
Note that it is normal for the sides of the refrigerator to heat up. However, if you have implemented the above measures and the refrigerator remains unusually hot, consider contacting a professional technician to identify and resolve the issue.
