Experts at Beko – a British home appliance brand, have revealed 7 ways to make your refrigerator more energy-efficient, Daily Express reports.
And this article is what you need to read if you want to improve the efficiency of your refrigerator and save costs for your family!
1. Set the ideal temperature
Most refrigerators have 5 temperature adjustment levels. And 5 is the highest level, when the temperature will be the coldest.
Experts at Beko recommend that the ideal temperature to set your refrigerator is between 2.2 and 3.3 degrees Celsius to achieve maximum efficiency while still saving electricity.
2. Place the refrigerator in a cool location
Your refrigerator will have to work harder if it is near the oven or heat exchanger. Instead, move it to a cooler area and check if there is at least a 5cm clearance around the sides, back, and top for ventilation.
Because, without the clearance, the refrigerator will not be able to release heat from the cooling compressor inside the appliance. This in turn causes the refrigerator to heat up and work harder to maintain the desired temperature for your food.
3. Always close the refrigerator door tightly
This may seem obvious, but leaving the door open will allow the entire cool air to escape, forcing your refrigerator to work to return to the temperature that you have set.
So instead of being distracted when taking out food for meals, close the door whenever possible.
4. Organize the refrigerator properly
Knowing where the food is in your refrigerator will mean that the door is open for a shorter time.
That also means that the food will be wasted less because items will not get lost in the depth of the appliance.
Experts from Beko said, “The less time you spend searching for food when the refrigerator door is open, the less the condenser unit will operate to bring the temperature back to the set level.”
5. Do not put hot food in the refrigerator
Putting hot food in the refrigerator will increase the internal temperature of the refrigerator, so you should avoid doing this. Instead, let the food cool down before putting it in.
6. Take care of and clean the refrigerator regularly
Any cracks or dirty pads mean warm air can get into your refrigerator. So, this small tip will save you a considerable amount every month.
In addition, the condenser coils on the back of the refrigerator also help maintain a cool temperature inside.
Over time, they can accumulate dust, so occasionally cleaning them will help them work efficiently.
7. Do not cram the refrigerator too full
The ideal is that the refrigerator should be filled 2/3. That is because a fuller refrigerator means there is less air to keep it cool.
If your refrigerator is too large to fill, you can always add a bottle of water to it. But do not cram your refrigerator or block the air vents because you still need good airflow to keep the entire refrigerator cool.
These are 7 ways to help you save energy, cut costs when using a refrigerator. Give it a try!
