Bright-colored clothing tends to turn yellow over time due to dirt, sweat, and environmental factors, often leaving stubborn stains. So, how can we restore the brightness and whiteness of these garments? Today, we will share a clever trick to effectively clean and brighten your clothes with just one ingredient, so read on!
Preparing the Cleaning Agent
First, take a container and add some baking soda to it. Then, pour in salt at a ratio of 1:2 (salt to baking soda). Add a few drops of laundry detergent (or powder) and a small amount of water, stirring the mixture well. After mixing, place it in the freezer for about two hours to form a solid block.
When it’s time to do your laundry, simply dissolve one of these cleaning agents in water and soak your yellowed clothes in the solution. Baking soda is a powerful cleaning agent that will help brighten your clothes. Soap also has strong cleaning properties, while salt effectively disinfects and prevents clothing from fading, even after multiple washes.
Other Effective Methods to Whiten Light-Colored Clothes:
1. Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide
Combining baking soda and hydrogen peroxide creates a powerful mixture that quickly and safely removes underarm yellow stains caused by sweat. Simply mix baking soda with hydrogen peroxide, adding a little water to the mixture, and store it in a jar. Pour a small amount of this solution onto the yellow stains and gently scrub with a brush. Soak the garment in the solution for about 30 minutes or until the stain disappears, then rinse the clothes with water. For stubborn stains, you can increase the amount of solution for faster and more effective results.
2. White Vinegar and Salt
White vinegar and salt create a natural whitening agent while also disinfecting and softening fabrics. To use this mixture, simply dissolve half a cup of white vinegar and a little salt in a bucket of water, ensuring the salt is completely dissolved. Soak your clothes in this solution for 30 minutes, then remove them and give them a regular wash.
3. Toothpaste
Toothpaste contains similar cleaning and whitening agents to baking soda and is especially safe for your clothes. Simply apply a small amount of toothpaste to the stained area and gently rub it into the fabric. Wait for a while, and once the stain is gone, rinse the area with clean water to remove any toothpaste residue.
4. Lemon Juice
Apply lemon juice directly to the stained area of the fabric and hang the garment in direct sunlight for a full day. At the end of the day, bring the clothes inside and give them a regular wash. The stains will be gone without any need for vigorous scrubbing.
5. Potato
Potatoes are not just for eating; they can also effectively remove yellow stains from clothing. To treat these stains, use a boiled potato, still in its skin, and gently rub it on the yellowed area for about 5-7 minutes until the stain fades. Then, rinse the area with cold water and hang the garment to dry in a well-ventilated area. This method not only removes stains but also brightens the fabric.
6. White Wine
Mix white wine with water in a 1:1 ratio and pour the mixture into a spray bottle. Spray it onto the yellowed areas of your clothes, or soak the garment in the mixture for a few hours for a more comprehensive whitening effect. Finally, rinse the clothes with water.
