In recent years, the trend of arranging snow apricot flowers has captivated the community of flower enthusiasts. Many women are on the lookout for large bouquets of snow apricot flowers with numerous buds and gracefully curving branches to decorate their homes for the new year. Mai Hương, a 1991-born resident of Hanoi, was no exception, quickly falling under the spell of the delicate and pure beauty of these flowers.
On one occasion, while browsing Facebook, Mai Hương stumbled upon a post selling pink snow apricot flowers. Before she could make a purchase, the post disappeared, and her attempts to find it again on the social media platform were fruitless. “Admiring the white snow apricot flowers is delightful enough, but what if they were dressed in a different color?”, she wondered.
Since she was unable to purchase the pink flowers, Mai Hương decided to take a risk and try changing the color of her own bouquet of snow apricot flowers by adding food coloring to the water.
“Previously, I had only seen people dyeing flowers with spongy stems, such as chrysanthemums. But I thought, ‘Why not give it a shot and try giving these snow apricot blossoms a new hue by adding food coloring to the flower water?’ I had faint hopes that the flowers would take on a new shade. Surprisingly, my experiment yielded results beyond my expectations. Gradually, the snow apricot flowers transformed, donning a new and uniquely beautiful appearance,” Mai Hương shared with VietNamNet.
Mai Hương enthusiastically shared her secret to transforming the color of snow apricot flowers. “When you buy snow apricot flowers, you should nourish them until the buds are about to bloom before mixing in the food coloring. The ratio is 700ml of flower water to 20-25 drops of color. Change the water every two days to ensure the buds receive the best nourishment and produce the most blooms. Each time you change the water, use the same ratio of coloring and feel free to add B1 or ready-made flower nourishment. If you persist with this process, your snow apricot flowers will bloom in the color you desire.”
Since snow apricot has a woody stem, the process of dyeing it with water will be slower compared to flowers with spongy or succulent stems. If you wish to expedite the color change, you can cut the flowers into smaller branches and submerge them in the colored solution. However, Mai Hương notes that “dyed snow apricot flowers won’t last as long as their original white counterparts.”

Tips for Choosing and Arranging Snow Apricot Flowers to Bloom Brilliantly for the Lunar New Year
To create a stunning display of blooming snow apricot flowers, keep the following tips in mind.
There are two types of snow apricot flowers: garden snow apricot and forest snow apricot. Depending on the temperature, they bloom at different rates. Garden snow apricot flowers bloom more easily and usually take about 6-8 days to blossom, accompanied by fresh green leaves. Forest snow apricot, on the other hand, takes 10-12 days to showcase its full beauty, with graceful, curving branches and an abundance of white flowers.
If you’re new to arranging and nurturing snow apricot flowers, it’s best to buy them from reputable sources and choose bouquets with large, ready-to-bloom buds. Look for snow apricot flowers with dense buds, bright and fresh stems, and plenty of curving branches to create a breathtaking display when they bloom.
When you get your flowers home, cut the thicker stems to create more surfaces for water absorption. Split the stems into two or four parts and rinse them before placing them in a bucket of water. For flowers with smaller buds, mist them with water during dry weather to keep them hydrated.
Since snow apricot has woody stems, you rarely need to change the water in the flower arrangement. Simply add flower nourishment or crushed B1 tablets to the water to ensure your arrangement stays fresh for 2-3 weeks.
If you notice that the flowers are blooming profusely and you want to slow down the process, you can add ice or place the flowers in a cold environment. Conversely, if the flowers are blooming slowly, try using warm water, keeping them in a warm and enclosed space, and hanging twinkling lights to generate heat and encourage faster blooming.
