Dr. Faraz, from the British National Health Service, explains that holding in gas can lead to several issues.
People have to do this because gas in the body accumulates throughout the day.
The British National Health Service states that a normal person releases about 1 liter of gas in the intestines every day.
Dr. Faraz advises to release it outside to avoid a condition referred to as “flatulence” that smells like “exhaust fumes”, according to The Sun.
Dr. Faraz explains that everyone “passes gas” and gas naturally forms in the stomach as a waste product of the digestion process. It mixes with the air.
He says, if you don’t “pass gas”, it can lead to sour belching, bloating, and abdominal discomfort. The gas can escape when flatulence is heavily scented and makes the breath smell. Imagine if flatulence smelled like “exhaust fumes”, how terrible is that, according to The Sun.

Although Dr. Faraz advises against holding it, there are things that can help make the “passed gas” less smelly.
Nutritionist Megan Rossi, Ph.D. in gut health from the University of Queensland (Australia), explains that not going outside allows water to be absorbed more, causing dry and hard stools which can lead to constipation.

Tips to prevent bloating

The expert also provides the top tips to prevent bloating as follows:
• Avoid sweeteners
It is crucial to avoid sweeteners because the immature intestines have difficulty absorbing sweeteners.
• Check your protein intake
If the “passed gas” has a stronger scent, check your protein intake, according to The Sun.
Try limiting protein intake to 1g per kg of body weight per day – for 2 weeks. For example: a 50kg person should only eat 50 grams of protein per day.
• Balance protein and fiber intake
If you want to increase protein intake, try increasing fiber to balance with protein in each meal.
Fiber is abundant in whole grains and vegetables.
• Limit red wine
For those who love to drink wine, Dr. Rossi advises to limit red wine as it contains sulphates.
• Try peppermint oil capsule
The expert also added, try a peppermint oil capsule, particularly when bloated as it helps relax the intestines, according to The Sun.
