With the recent outbreak of the Coronavirus and its impact on respiratory health, health officials have recommended the use of medical masks to prevent the spread of infection. This is especially important for those who are nearsighted and rely on glasses to see clearly. However, a common issue faced by glasses wearers is that their lenses tend to fog up when wearing a mask, causing discomfort and impairing their daily activities. Check out these five simple tips to prevent this annoying problem!
1 Pull the Mask Higher
The simplest solution is to adjust the position of your mask. Pull it up higher on your nose, ensuring it sits snugly between the bridge of your nose and the rim of your glasses. This will help reduce the escape of warm breath that causes fogging.
2 Fold the Stiff Edge of the Mask Inward
Instead of letting the stiff edge of the mask sit on the bridge of your nose, fold it inward. This traditional way of wearing a mask can cause your breath to condense and fog up your lenses. By folding the stiff edge inward, you’ll also feel more comfortable and won’t experience any pain or pressure on your nose.
3 Use Tissue Paper
Insert a small piece of tissue paper along the stiff edge of the mask. Be careful not to use too much tissue, as it might obstruct your view. This simple trick can make a big difference in preventing your lenses from fogging up.
4 Use Adhesive Tape
This method is recommended by doctors to prevent fogging and moisture buildup on your lenses. Take a piece of medical adhesive tape, about 10-15 cm long, and attach it to the top edge of your mask, pressing it firmly against your nose and just below your eyes. This will ensure that your mask stays in place and that your breath doesn’t escape upward, causing fogging. Make sure to press the tape firmly against your skin for a secure fit. This trick is highly effective and will keep your mask from slipping, while also directing your breath away from your lenses.
However, it’s important to use medical adhesive tape, as regular adhesive tape may not stick as well and could come loose with movement. Additionally, medical adhesive tape can be gently removed and reused as long as it’s kept clean and dry.
5 Clean Your Lenses with Dish Soap
Another effective solution is to clean your lenses with a small amount of dish soap. Use a clean cloth to apply the soap to your lenses, and then let them air dry. The soap will leave a thin film that reduces surface tension and prevents water from condensing on your lenses. Additionally, invest in high-quality masks that offer optimal antibacterial protection, as recommended by experts.
