How to Wash Clothes and Keep them Smelling Fresh with a Washing Machine

For a long time, a washing machine has been a “helpful assistant” in every household. However, many people still struggle with the problem that even though they follow the instructions, their clothes don’t smell as fresh as those from the store. Below, Gia đình và xã hội will guide you on how to wash clothes and keep them smelling fresh like the ones from the store:

Step 1: Check the Washing Machine and Clean the Drum

– Before washing, make sure to check the power source, water hoses, detergent compartments, and remember to clean the fabric lint filter inside the drum.

– Next, activate the drum cleaning function and press the start button for this mode.

– When the washing machine starts working, you can use baking soda, vinegar, lemon juice, etc. to enhance the cleaning power, disinfect bacteria, and prevent mold and residue buildup in the drum.

– Then, close the lid and wait for about 2 hours for this process to complete. Use a microfiber cloth to wipe the inside of the drum and the top of the washing machine.

By following this method, your clothes will retain a long-lasting fragrance without the need to spend money on professional laundry services.

Step 2: Load the Clothes into the Washing Machine

– First, remember to separate white clothes and colored clothes.

– For delicate items or clothes with embellishments, remember to put them in a laundry bag.

– Check the pockets of the clothes to make sure nothing is left inside that could tear the fabric or damage the washing machine.

– For heavily soiled clothes, it’s advisable to pre-soak them by hand before putting them in the washing machine.

– Load the right amount of clothes according to the machine’s capacity, avoiding overloading as it can affect the machine’s performance and result in ineffective cleaning and freshening.

Step 3: Start the Washing Cycle

– Pour an appropriate amount of laundry detergent into the detergent dispenser (the dosage for each type is printed on the product packaging).

– Adjust the water level according to the amount of laundry. For example, 1 cap of laundry detergent (60ml) is suitable for 15 – 20 pieces of clothing (equivalent to 6-7kg).

– For curtains, blankets, pillows, and thick fabrics, use 1.5 caps of fabric softener. (1 cap of fabric softener is sufficient for a regular wash.)

– Press the wash button and select the appropriate water level.

Step 4: Use Scented Paper or Essential Oil

– Place 1 – 2 scented papers that have been soaked with fragrance in the drum to make your clothes smell incredibly fresh. Add them at the end of the washing program.

– Essential oil: Dilute scented essential oil with water and add it to the machine when the washing program finishes and wait for the rinse cycle.

Note: When using scented paper or essential oil, there’s no need to use fabric softener because the clothes are already scented and it might clash with the fragrance.

Step 5: Take the Clothes out and Hang them

– After completing the washing cycle, take out the clothes and turn them inside out before hanging them.

– It’s recommended to hang the clothes immediately after washing to prevent them from developing an unpleasant odor or dampness if left in the machine for too long, which can promote the growth of bacteria and mold.

Above are some tips to keep your clothes smelling fresh like the ones from the store without having to spend money on professional laundry services. Stay tuned to Gia đình và xã hội for more useful household tips.

Frequently asked questions

Utilize a washing machine and follow these steps: separate clothes by color and fabric type, use the right amount of detergent, choose the appropriate washing cycle, and finally, dry them properly. Additionally, consider using fabric softener and stain removal products when needed.

Separating clothes ensures that colors don’t bleed onto each other and fabrics are treated appropriately. For example, delicate fabrics require a gentler cycle to prevent damage, while heavier fabrics can handle more vigorous washing.

Refer to the instructions on your detergent package. Generally, you’ll need to take into account the size of the load and the level of soiling. It’s important not to overuse detergent as it can lead to residue buildup on clothes and washing machine components.

Select a cycle that matches the fabric type and level of soiling. For delicate items, choose a gentle or hand-wash cycle. Heavily soiled clothes may require a longer, heavier-duty cycle. Also, pay attention to water temperature recommendations for different fabrics.

Check the care labels on your clothes for specific instructions. Some items are best air-dried, while others can go in the dryer. When using a dryer, avoid over-drying as it can cause shrinkage and damage. Remove clothes promptly once the cycle is complete.

Fabric softener helps to reduce static cling and makes clothes feel softer. It also adds a fresh scent to your laundry. However, avoid using it on flame-resistant clothing as it may reduce their effectiveness.

Treat stains as soon as possible. There are various stain removal products available, and you can also create a DIY stain remover using common household items. Always test on a small area first and follow the care instructions for the specific fabric.
