Recently, many consumers have expressed concern when buying jackfruitbecause they see the jackfruit being cut and coated with a white substance.
Jackfruit has always been a popular fruit for many women, it can be eaten ripe, or used to make desserts, dried jackfruit, or jackfruit sticky rice. If the local jackfruit only has one season per year, women can buy Thai jackfruit all year round at prices ranging from 25,000 – 60,000 VND/kg, including whole fruit, cut pieces or separated segments.

However, with Thai jackfruit, consumers often see each fruit being cut into a piece the size of a palm and covered with a white powder. Many people feel hesitant, even dare not buy this type of jackfruit because they believe that the jackfruit is cut and coated with ripening agents, which is not good for health.
According to many experts, the white coating on the jackfruit has been identified as lime, not a preservative or a substance that stimulates ripening. Cutting the head in this way is actually to check the ripeness and quality of the jackfruit, to avoid buying fruits that are too fibrous.
Especially, to prevent jackfruit from being contaminated by bacteria, the simplest way is to coat it with lime. Coating jackfruit with lime has the effect of disinfection, limiting the penetration of bacteria. Consumers will remove the white part when they bring the jackfruit home, so there will be no harmful effects.
