To commemorate the hundreds of innocent children who were heartlessly slaughtered by the Nazis, in 1949, the International Democratic Women’s Federation decided to take June 1st on an annual basis as International Children’s Day, demanding that governments take responsibility for children’s lives, reduce military budgets to increase education budgets, and protect and care for adolescents and children. Since 1950, June 1st has become Children’s Day.
