Dandruff is one of the most common causes of itchy scalp, a bothersome issue that most people have experienced at some point. In addition, dry scalp is one of the causes of irritating itchiness, often accompanied by flaking, redness, pimples, and even hair loss.

Itchy scalp can also be caused by dermatological conditions, which can lead to prolonged discomfort and may be accompanied by more serious symptoms.

Treating an Itchy Scalp

Frequent Shampooing

If you have oily skin or tend to use hair gels, sprays, or styling products with strong hold, these can contribute to the buildup of oil and dirt, making your scalp more sensitive and prone to itching. Shampooing frequently, about 2-3 times a week, can help remove dirt, excess oil, and impurities.

Use Gentle, Natural Products

Opt for hair care products with gentle formulas. These products typically avoid harsh chemicals like sulfates, parabens, and artificial fragrances, providing a more natural form of protection.

Oil Hair Treatment

This is an excellent solution to alleviate itchiness and nourish your scalp effectively. Try blending natural essential oils such as lavender, chamomile, or geranium oil with a carrier oil like coconut or jojoba oil. These oils have anti-inflammatory and softening properties while reducing itchiness. Additionally, coconut or jojoba oil provides deep moisture and balances oil production, nourishing the scalp and strengthening hair fibers.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar contains acetic acid, which has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, helping to maintain a clean and healthy scalp. Mix about 3 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar with a glass of warm water. After shampooing, massage this mixture into your scalp for 20 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with water.

Grapefruit Peel and Lemongrass

Grapefruit peel and lemongrass are rich in vitamins and have antibacterial and antifungal properties, making them effective and safe remedies for an itchy scalp. Peel one small grapefruit, add 3 lemongrass stalks and a few slices of lemon, then boil with about a liter of water. Use the warm solution to wash your hair.
