Many women find it necessary to brighten stainless steel items that have become yellowed and stained after use. Ms. An Thuy, a 46-year-old resident of Hanoi, shared her secret for cleaning stainless steel items to restore their whiteness and brightness. She discovered that lime stone powder is an effective cleaning agent.
According to Ms. Thuy, lime powder is more effective than the detergents she had been using. She tested it on various stainless steel items such as kitchen floors, ceramic hobs, dishwashing sinks, and facewash basins, and achieved satisfactory results.
Here is the method Ms. Thuy uses: She puts some lime powder in a small bowl and uses an old toothbrush, a damp towel, and a dry soft cloth.
She then soaks the pans and pots that need cleaning in water. Using a damp towel, she gently applies the lime powder to the areas that need cleaning and scrubs vigorously. Multiple repetitions of this process remove long-standing dirt stains. For hard-to-reach corners or handles, a brush is used.
“After cleaning all the items, it is recommended to soak them in a basin or rinse them under clean water. If necessary, use a dry cloth to see immediate results. I also apply this method to glass containers to remove long-standing tea stains, and it works effectively, making them clean and shiny again,” she said.
Currently, Ms. Thuy’s family uses a lot of cast iron pans, enamel-coated pans, and stainless steel pans. These items tend to accumulate oil drops over time, so occasional cleaning is necessary. Lime powder can be purchased at stores that sell construction materials and accessories.
