Lettuce is a commonly consumed food in many Vietnamese households. It is both nutritious and delicious. However, lettuce tends to wilt easily, and it is often necessary to buy a large quantity when purchasing. This creates a challenge for many housewives who struggle to extend the lifespan of their lettuce.

As a result, even lettuce bunches stored in the refrigerator for a period of time can become wilted and unfit for consumption. Unfortunately, many housewives are left with no choice but to discard them.

However, there is a way to “revive” withered lettuce that is neither crushed nor fully wilted. This technique, which is also used by green vegetable stores abroad, helps prevent food waste. A former employee of a green vegetable store shared this secret on The Kitchn website and received positive feedback.

According to her, to “revive” lettuce, simply soak it in a basin of water with a few pieces of ice for about 5 minutes. Any withered leaves will regain their freshness and vitality during this time.

Why does this work? When the lettuce is cut from its stem, it begins to lose moisture as it is exposed to air. This gentle and quick method helps restore the lost moisture, making the lettuce leaves fresh and delicious once again. It is a great solution for households that buy too much lettuce or have unintentionally forgotten the lettuce bunches in their refrigerators.

In addition, you can also enhance the refreshing effect by adding the juice of half a lemon to the basin of ice water. Soak the lettuce in this mixture for about 1 hour and then rinse it with normal water.
