Ingredients preparation
– Bread flour: 250g
– Chicken egg: 1 piece
– Fresh milk: 70ml
– Instant yeast: 3g
– Margarine: 20g
– Caster sugar: 15g
Method
Mix the bread dough
First, you mix the flour, sugar, eggs, milk, and yeast in a large bowl, using a spoon to mix well until the mixture combines together.
Knead the bread dough
You use your hands to knead the dough until it forms a uniform mass, then take it out onto the table and continue kneading using the Folding and Stretching technique.
First, fold the dough again and then press and stretch the dough away. Then rotate the dough 90 degrees and repeat the two steps above for 10 minutes.
When the dough starts to become smooth, add the margarine to it and repeat the kneading motion for an additional 10 minutes until the dough forms a uniform, smooth, elastic, and non-stick consistency.
Proof the dough
You put the dough in a bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it proof for 60 minutes until the dough doubles in size. You can check by pressing your finger into the dough. If the dent remains, it’s ready.
Roll and shape the bread
You put the dough on the table and roll it into a thin square shape.
Then use a knife to cut various lines on the surface of the dough to create shapes. The cutting technique varies depending on the desired size.
Finally, dust the dough balls with dry flour to prevent sticking.
Toast the bread in a pan
You heat a non-stick pan on the stove, place the dough balls on it, and cook over low heat until both sides turn golden brown.
Final product
These pan-toasted bread rolls are not only simple and quick but also have a taste that is not inferior to oven-baked ones. The bread is chewy and soft, with a slight sweetness and a delicious aroma of butter. You can enjoy them with condensed milk or fruit jam, both taste great.
Tips for making successful oven-free bread
– You should knead the dough using the proper technique to achieve a soft and chewy bread texture.
– You can use flour to aid in kneading, but it may cause the dough to dry out. You should add a little water and continue kneading. Dough with more moisture tends to be better than dry dough.
– If you have a dough mixer, start mixing at a low speed and gradually increase to a higher speed.
– If the dough doesn’t rise, check the expiration date of the instant yeast. Yeast close to the expiration date may have reduced effectiveness or be inactive. To test, mix a little warm water at around 30 degrees Celsius (not exceeding 37 degrees Celsius) with the yeast and wait for about 15 minutes. If the yeast foams up like a layer of crabgrass, it is still good and can be used with confidence.
Bread preservation tips
If you can’t finish the bread, you can store it in a container or bag, and keep it in a cool place. This type of bread can be stored for about 2-3 days. After a long time, the bread will become stiff and lose its deliciousness.
