In addition to being used as food, you can use rice in the following cases:
Keep silver shining
Objects made of silver, silver jewelry… tend to tarnish and need regular polishing. We can keep silver shiny by using thick rice starch water boiled. Then, put the silver jewelry inside. After that, take the jewelry out and rinse it with soap. It will be bright and beautiful like new.
Ripen fruit
If you want to accelerate the ripening process of avocados or bananas, simply put them in a box with rice. The ripening effect will be very clear. Remember to check the box regularly to ensure that the fruit does not over ripen.
Clean glass bottles
This is one of the unexpected uses of rice that not many people think of. Cleaning narrow-mouthed bottles and jars is not easy. You will struggle to put cloth or hand inside to clean dirt.
There is a much simpler way: Pour a handful of dry rice into the bottle along with soapy water, shake several times and soak for a few minutes. Then, shake the bottle to remove dirt with rice grains, pour it out, shake the bottle again several times with clean water, and you’re done.
Test oil temperature
Checking oil temperature by hand is a mistake that many people often make. Touching the pan with wet hands can cause burns from the hot steam, and the risk of water dropping into the pan and causing oil to splatter is very high.
Therefore, to ensure safety while checking whether the oil is hot or not, simply put a few grains of rice in it. If the oil starts to boil, you can start cooking without worrying about the taste of the food being affected. Just remember to scoop out the rice.
Make a hot compress bag
Instead of using expensive methods to relieve body aches, we can soothe them with a homemade hot compress bag using rice and a clean sock or cloth bag.
First, pour rice into the sock so that the rice grains can still move and massage the body. Then, tie the sock tightly and put it in the microwave for about a minute to heat it up.
Prevent tools from rusting
Rust occurs when metal comes into contact with oxygen and moisture for a long time. Rice has good moisture absorption ability, so you can add some rice to your toolbox to keep your wrench and hammer dry and prevent them from rusting for longer.
Save a wet phone
If your phone accidentally falls into water, immediately remove the battery and place the phone in a container with rice overnight.
Rice has excellent moisture absorption ability. And this method is safer than using a hairdryer because the strong wind or heat of the dryer can damage the internal electronic components.
