Washing machines are no longer unfamiliar devices to households. They help free up labor, save time in laundry work. However, not everyone knows how to use washing machines properly to prolong their lifespan.
After washing clothes, you should do these two additional steps to ensure safety and help the machine last longer.
Unplug the machine when not in use
In principle, when not in use, you should unplug or turn off the power switch of electrical devices. Washing machines are no exception.
When not in use, the current will still run through the device if you do not cut off the power. This can cause a small amount of electricity to be consumed, both consuming electricity and affecting the lifespan of the machine. More dangerously, it poses the risk of electric shock, electric leakage. Therefore, no matter where you place the washing machine, you should unplug or turn off the power switch when not using the device.
After unplugging, place the plug in a dry place. Avoid placing the washing machine’s plug, electrical plug on the floor because it is prone to water or mouse bites.
Keep the washing machine door open after use
Many people use washing machines but do not pay attention to this. After using the washing machine, you should immediately hang the clothes. This helps the clothes dry quickly, avoid wrinkles and avoid odor.
After taking out all the clothes, you should open the washing tub door to let the steam inside evaporate, reducing the humidity inside the washing tub. This helps prevent mold and bacteria growth, and limits the washing tub from having a bad smell. This is especially useful for front-load washing machines.
Top-load washing machines (top-loading) do not have a rubber lining at the machine door so the water remaining in the machine can evaporate faster and the humidity is lower.
Meanwhile, front-load washing machines have a rubber lining that prevents water from dripping out during operation. This rubber lining keeps the washing tub in a sealed environment, where air does not circulate and water vapor does not escape. This is a favorable condition for bacteria and mold to grow and cause unpleasant odors, which is not good for the health of the users.
After using the washing machine, you should leave the machine door open for about 1-2 hours to let the washing tub dry, let the steam evaporate. There is no need to leave the washing tub open for too long because dust can enter inside and also obstruct the passage (with front-load washing machines).
