1. One Pillar Pagoda – Famous Iconic Pagoda in Hanoi

  • Location: One Pillar Pagoda Street, Doi Can Ward, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi

The One Pillar Pagoda is the most unique architectural structure in Asia, with artistic design, woodcarving, sculpture, and painting that strongly reflect the national culture. The pagoda is set on a large stone pillar, resembling a lotus blossom.

The pagoda was built in 1049 during the reign of King Ly Thai Tong. Over the years, the pagoda has undergone many renovations and reconstructions.

2. Tran Quoc Pagoda

Tran Quoc Pagoda is an ancient pagoda situated on a mound surrounded by the blue water. The pagoda was built during the Early Ly Dynasty (6th century). From above, Tran Quoc Pagoda has the shape of the letter “Cong” with 3 main sections: Upper Palace, Front Hall, and House of Incense.

3. Ha Temple – Sacred Karmic Temple in Hanoi

5. Bo Can Tho – Hanoi Pagoda Linked to Historical Victory

Bo Can Tho, originally named Sung Phuc Pagoda, marks the outstanding achievements of the Tay Son rebels in the war against the Qing army during the Lunar New Year of the Rooster.

The architecture of the pagoda includes Tam Quan Gate, Dien Tam Bao, ancestral worship area, and worship halls for the ancestors and heroes.

6. Phap Van Pagoda

  • Location: Phu Ninh Hamlet, Ninh Hiep Commune, Gia Lam, Hanoi

Phap Van Pagoda was built during the Ly Dynasty in the shape of a “Cong” with 100 spacious and grand halls, with a large open yard in front.

The architecture of Phap Van Pagoda starts from the Ngoc Mon Gate. The overall structure of the pagoda includes the front hall, rear hall, 5-hall Tam Bao area, and Thuy Dinh Palace.

Currently, the pagoda houses 116 exquisitely crafted Buddha statues dating from the 17th to the 19th centuries.

7. Pho Quang Pagoda

Pho Quang Pagoda is a historical and cultural heritage from the Tran Dynasty, founded by Truc Lam Zen Masters of Yen Tu. This ancient Hanoi pagoda has a solemn and ancient beauty.

8. Huong Pagoda – Sacred Pagoda in Hanoi

Huong Pagoda was established during the reign of King Le Huy Tong (1680 – 1704) and is known as the “Foremost Southern Temple.” This pagoda is closely associated with the worship of Lady Ba Chua in the folklore.

15. Thien Phuc Pagoda

Thien Phuc Pagoda is famous for its beautiful and refined architecture. The gate of Thien Phuc Pagoda is a majestic structure with 3 floors, 8 roofs, and 2 large towers on both sides. There are bells and drums hanging on the upper floor.

The pagoda worships Buddha, Holy Tran Hung Dao, Princess Lieu Hanh, and other deities.
