In addition, white radish is also known for its ability to dissolve bruises on the skin and help reduce swelling and pain (when sprained or bruised). At the same time, white radish has a range of other benefits for the bones and joints:
White radish disperses cold, reduces inflammation
In Traditional Medicine, white radish is known for its outstanding anti-inflammatory effects, as well as its ability to dissolve accumulations, disperse stagnant blood, and dispel wind and cold.
Therefore, when the weather changes and the bones and joints become sore, or if the muscles in the hands and feet feel tired, or if there are bruises on the skin…then people often use white radish to improve the condition.
However, according to my father’s experience, each type of skin will require a specific amount of time for the application of the radish (as white radish is slightly spicy and pungent when fresh, applying it may cause a slightly hot sensation).
A herbal remedy with white radish to relieve joint pain
First, take a white radish weighing about 250g, wash it clean, and peel it so that the peeled part is still attached to the flesh (about 2mm thick). Then, crush the radish peel and apply it to the affected area.
For normal skin: after applying the crushed white radish peel, wrap it with a thin cloth and wait for 45 minutes before removing it and rinsing the area with warm water.
For sensitive and thin skin: if you have thin or sensitive skin, you should only apply the radish peel for 7-10 minutes (or until it starts to feel hot or uncomfortable), then remove it and rinse the skin with warm water. After a while, when the skin has recovered, take the leftover medicine and apply it to the cloth, then continue to apply it for another 30 minutes (or until it feels hot), and rinse the skin with warm water.
To get the best results, you should apply this remedy twice a day, in the early morning and before going to bed. However, in order to see improvements, you need to be consistent for a certain period of time (about 1 week).
Note: Apply the remedy only to the bruised, swollen, and painful areas of the skin (do not apply it to scraped, itchy, or open wounds, as it may cause discomfort and further damage to the skin).

White radish, a good food for bones
In addition to external use, white radish is also used as a food to support bone and joint health.
According to the book “Dictionary of Vietnamese Medicinal Plants” by researcher Vo Van Chi, white radish is known as a food that prevents bone weakness and blood damage. Therefore, people who frequently experience bone and joint pain, or who are at risk of osteoporosis, bone weakness, and bone damage should incorporate this vegetable into their meals (eating it several days a week, about 100g a day, and preparing it in various dishes such as soups, stews, etc., according to personal preference).
In terms of nutrition, white radish is rich in calcium (100g of fresh radish contains up to 40mg of calcium) and essential minerals for the bones, such as phosphorus and magnesium…
