5 liver and kidney nourishing sleeping postures: Who can sleep well – live long

According to Lý Ngư, a doctor in the Qing Dynasty, the secret to good health is prioritizing sleep. Sleep can restore vital energy, nourish the body, strengthen the tendons and bones. If you have poor sleep quality for a long time and experience extreme fatigue, it can lead to pathological changes that deplete qi and damage the internal organs.

Below are the traditional methods of the Daoist called “hỗn nguyên tọa” that help relax the body, nourish the liver and kidney, promote good sleep and longevity. All you need to do is change your sleeping position.

1. Sleeping on the right side:

Lie on your right side, bend your right leg and straighten your left leg; support your shoulder with your right hand and place your left hand on the bed. Sleep in a completely comfortable state.

2. Sleeping supine, slightly inclined to the left:

Lie on your left side, straighten your left leg and slightly bend your right leg; place your left hand straight down on the bed and put your right hand on your right leg; contract your abdomen and sleep slightly supine.

3. Sleeping supine, slightly inclined to the right:

Lie on your right side, straighten your right leg and slightly bend your left leg; straighten your right arm down to the bed and place your left hand on your left leg; contract your abdomen and sleep slightly supine.

4. Meditation and sleeping according to the Buddhist nature (1):

Lie supine, place a comfortable pillow, point your feet towards each other, extend your knees, place your hands on your lower abdomen, relax your entire body, head, neck, back, liver, gallbladder, spleen, and kidneys. As a result, all the pores of the body are opened, and all the internal organs are interconnected.

5. Meditation and sleeping according to the Buddhist nature (2):

Similar to position 4, but place your hands behind your head and open your chest.

The 5 sleeping positions mainly focus on deep breathing, which helps calm the brain and relax the muscles. It can increase the reserve of oxygen in the human body, improve respiratory function and ensure physical health. When sleeping, an accurate and good sleeping position is the most beneficial for our sleep and health. Among the 5 sleeping positions, we can choose a suitable way to sleep and experience each posture.

Remember to relax your whole body and adjust your breathing rhythm deeply when sleeping. These positions can relax the nerves, stretch the blood vessels, especially positions 4 and 5, which can help treat insomnia and nourish the liver and kidneys appropriately.
