Salt is considered a valuable asset. In addition to being used as a seasoning, salt is also widely used in purification rituals. The ancients believed that salt has the power to ward off evil spirits and misfortunes, bringing luck to the family. On the occasion of the new year, people often buy salt to attract luck, health, and wealth to their families.
To improve feng shui, people also place a bowl of saltwater in their homes.
First, prepare some salt grains, a bowl or glass, and 6 coins. Pour the salt into the bowl (about 3/4 of the bowl’s capacity). Arrange the 6 coins in a circle on top of the layer of salt (with the obverse side facing up). Slowly pour clean water into the bowl of salt. Place the bowl on a piece of cloth. The homeowner can place the bowl of salt in the corners of the house that have bad energy, such as the Northeast and Northwest, to dispel negative influences.
Among them, the Northeast is the dangerous direction regarding illness and sickness. In the Year of the Metal Dragon 2024, the Northeast is the afflicted direction.
The Northwest is the dangerous direction that brings adverse effects on health and accidents. In the Year of the Metal Dragon 2024, the Northwest is the primary direction.
The homeowner can place the bowl of saltwater in one of these two directions.
Once the bowl of salt is placed in the appropriate position, the homeowner does not need to touch it. Just leave it as it is until the end of the year.
In feng shui, salt crystals combined with water are a method to dispel negative energy. The metal coins stimulate chemical reactions that help cleanse and eliminate negative energy in the house.
At the end of the year, the homeowner simply needs to place the bowl of salt in a plastic bag, tie it tightly, and throw it into the outside trash bin. In the following year, the homeowner will find a suitable direction according to the year and place a new bowl of salt.
In addition, to eliminate negative energy in the house, the homeowner can sprinkle some sea salt in each room, in front of the house, and leave it overnight. The next morning, sweep away all the salt, gather it and put it in a bag to throw away.
People also hold salt in their left hand and throw it over their left shoulder to ward off bad luck. Note that it must be thrown over the left shoulder, from front to back. If thrown over the right shoulder, misfortune will increase.
