The colorants in blush or eyeshadow can also contribute to skin damage.

Reasons that make the skin worse due to makeup

Clogging ingredients

A thick layer of makeup combined with dust and oil can easily clog the pores on the skin surface over time. Cosmetics that contain moisturizing ingredients like mineral oil and coconut oil or have a thick, dense texture can cause clogged pores. The coloring agents in blush or eyeshadow can also deteriorate the skin.

Inadequate cleansing

Before going to bed, proper cleansing is crucial to maintain healthy and breathable skin. While sleeping, hormones have the function of healing and stimulating faster cell regeneration and repair. Leaving makeup on the eyes can increase the risk of eye infections and damage the delicate skin around the eyes.

Improper hygiene of makeup tools

The blush brush, powder puff… the makeup tools you use on your face every day can also be the cause of acne. If not cleaned regularly, at least twice a week, they will become the main cause of irritation, sensitivity, and noticeable deterioration of the skin.

And not only makeup tools need to be cleaned and replaced regularly, but your makeup products also need to be ensured that they are still within their expiration date and properly stored.

Skincare while wearing makeup

Ladies, establish a routine of sufficient skincare, focusing on cleansing, moisturizing, and protecting the skin with a primer to minimize the negative effects caused by makeup every day.

Proper makeup removal

Double cleansing – removing makeup with micellar water or oil and then washing it off with face wash – is an effective skincare method. Choose mild products suitable for each skin type.

Gentle micellar water and gel-type facial cleansers with a pH level of around 5.5-6 will be the “favorite” for sensitive, acne-prone, and easily irritated skin. Additionally, exfoliating is also important, but you shouldn’t exfoliate too often as it can damage the skin’s protective barrier.

Moisturizing

Moisture is necessary and sufficient to create a healthy, smooth, and resilient skin foundation against environmental factors. Moisturizing is also essential for creating a moisturized and healthy skin base.

For oily skin, choose a lightweight, water-based moisturizer. On the contrary, gel or lotion with fast absorption will not be enough to maintain long-lasting moisture for dry skin, therefore, cream products should be preferred more.

Apply primer

The moisturizer at this stage needs an “effective assistant”, which is primer. A layer of primer acts as a protective barrier between the skin and the powder, providing the most comprehensive makeup skincare. There are many types such as sun protection, moisturizing, smoothing, pore minimizing, water resistance…, catering to diverse beauty needs.
