Ms. Dao Thi Doan Trang, 24 years old, currently does business in the fashion industry. Before she got married, her weight was at 45 kg (99 lbs), standing at 1.6 m (5’3). However, after giving birth, her waistline became huge, leaving the young mother depressed. Trang likes sweets, and her sedentary job made her weight increase quickly, giving her an apple-shaped body.

Trang once used diet supplements as advised, worked, and ate at irregular hours, resulting in a stomach ulcer. After that, she learned about scientific weight loss methods.

1 Intermittent fasting 16:8 and “hand” diet

Intermittent fasting 16:8 is a method of limiting eating time to 8 hours and fasting for the remaining 16 hours.

Hand diet is a way of estimating the appropriate amount of food for each meal based on the size of the hand.

Trang eats two meals a day and does not consume fruits or snacks before 7 pm..

In addition, she applies the “hand” rule to ensure a balanced nutrition:

  • A fist of protein (250g or 8.8 oz)
  • Two handfuls of vegetables
  • A fistful of good starch (potatoes, beans, lentils, etc.)
  • A fingertip of fat (olive oil, avocados, walnuts, etc.)

2 Cut out sugar, reduce salty food

Trang also completely cut out sugar and reduced her intake of salty foods and carbonated drinks. Occasionally, when cravings arise, she consumes boiled vegetables, drinks water, and chooses fruits low in sugar such as apples, carrots, papayas, and limits ripe fruits like durian, mangoes, and grapes.

3 Spend about 30 minutes a day exercising

Each day, Trang exercises for 30 minutes, focusing on squats, planks, and jogging to burn fat from the belly and arms. For Trang, exercising is a supportive method, not a forced one, so she does not feel pressured. Trang shares: “I work out as a habit, to the point where I feel something’s missing and uncomfortable if I don’t. Exercising not only helps me stay in shape, but also makes my body healthier.” Additionally, Trang always tries to go to bed early, drink plenty of water, and stay positive.

In one month, Trang’s waistline decreased from 73 to 62 cm (28.7 to 24.4 in), her belly from 84 to 73 cm (33 to 28.7 in), and her biceps reduced by 5 cm (2 in). “In addition to being a mother, losing weight is also an achievement I’m proud of,” says Trang, adding that thanks to her successful weight loss, she’s now healthier, more confident, and happier.
