Facebook is a popular social media platform worldwide – a place where people can connect, interact, and share daily life. However, despite being a well-known social network, online security issues on Facebook are still a major challenge for this platform. Especially with the prevalence of “hackers,” many Facebook accounts have been infiltrated and personal information stolen for fraud. So if one day your Facebook account also encounters a similar situation, let’s pocket 3 extremely simple ways to recover a hacked Facebook account right away according to the sharing in today’s article.

Reasons why your Facebook account is vulnerable to hacking

In recent years, the strong development of social networks has attracted a rapid increase in users. This is also the reason why many wrongdoers have taken advantage of the security loopholes to capture the accounts of many users.

Currently, with over 1 billion users, Facebook is the most vulnerable platform to hackers. Especially for accounts with a large number of followers or accounts used for selling, they are all classified as at risk of being hacked, taken over to deceive or demand ransom. On the other hand, if your account is facing one of the following situations, it is highly likely that, in the near future, hackers will “visit” Facebook. Specifically:

    • Using weak passwords: Many people tend to use easy-to-remember passwords with simple, guessable characters, without realizing that this behavior makes your Facebook account more vulnerable to attacks and personal information theft.
    • Applying the same password for multiple services: If you are using the same password for multiple different types of accounts, such as banking apps, e-wallets, Gmail, or social networks, it is certain that if one service is hacked, it could affect other types of accounts as well.
    • Forgetting to log out of the account: If you log into Facebook on a public computer or another person’s computer and forget to log out, it is not excluded that someone will use your account.
    • Using insecure public Wi-Fi: Using an insecure Wi-Fi network can make your Facebook account vulnerable to hackers stealing login information.
    • Accessing malicious links or downloading software containing malware: Clicking on malicious links or installing malware containing malicious viruses could lead to your Facebook account being stolen.

Signs that your Facebook account has been hacked

If you encounter any of the following signs, do not take it lightly as it may indicate that your Facebook account is being illegally infiltrated:

    • When logging into Facebook, if you receive a wrong password notification, but a few minutes later you can log in normally with that password, it is possible that your account has been compromised by someone.
    • In your friend list, if there are new people you don’t know or the chat section displays content that you are sure you did not send.
    • When checking your profile page, you discover that some information has been changed. For example, your name, profile picture, cover photo, or contact information.
    • Occasionally, you will receive notifications that someone has accepted a friend request even though you don’t remember sending them a friend request.
    • Receiving messages from phone or email asking for an activation code for your Facebook account.
    • Receiving calls or messages from friends, acquaintances asking “were you the one chatting on Facebook?” (usually related to borrowing money).

Of course, there are still many other signs that could indicate that your Facebook account is being hacked. However, the above are the most common signs, and if you encounter any of them, you need to pay attention to immediately check the security of your account as they may be hacked.

Summary of 3 simple ways to recover a hacked Facebook account

Depending on the specific situation, you will need to apply different methods to recover a hacked Facebook account. Below, we will introduce the most common methods for you to consider and apply the most appropriate method for your situation.

Recover a hacked Facebook account by reporting a compromised account

Step 1: To start the process of recovering your Facebook account, you need to access the link here. After the website opens, click on the option My account has been hacked.

Step 2: Here, provide the email address or phone number that you used to register your Facebook account. Make sure the information you entered is accurate, then click on the Search button.

Step 3: You will need to enter the current password or old password of your Facebook account > Click on Continue.

Step 4: Choose the option Secure my account.

Step 5: Here, choose the method to send the verification code according to your preference (could be through Google account, email, or phone number) > Click Continue to set a new password.

Step 6: Facebook will send you a corresponding security code through the selected account in the above step, enter this security code accurately to set a new password.

Step 7: Enter a new password for the account > Select Continue.

Recover a hacked Facebook account by verifying with ID card

For recovering a hacked Facebook account with an ID card, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Access the Facebook Help Center through the link here.

Step 2: On the page, a notification will appear requesting you to send an ID to verify your identity along with Facebook’s terms and conditions. You need to read these terms carefully to ensure that your request can be accepted by Facebook.

Step 3: Here, you will need to click on Choose File to upload 3 photos including the front and back of your ID card along with a portrait photo of yourself to verify with Facebook. The clearer and sharper the photos, the easier it will be to recover your Facebook account.

Step 4: After uploading the photos, you need to provide an email address and press the Send button. Then, the verification result from Facebook will be returned within 30 days from the time you submit the information.

Recover a hacked Facebook account using the old password

Below are the steps to recover a hacked Facebook account using the old password in 6 simple steps that you can perform on your computer or smartphone:

Step 1: Access Facebook.com on your browser via your computer or the Facebook app downloaded onto your mobile phone > Enter your old password.

Step 2: At this time, a error notification window will appear, indicating that you have entered the old password. If you don’t remember making this change, follow the instructions as illustrated in the picture.

Step 3: Then, a new window will appear. Here, select Reset my password.

Step 4: You will see a new notification appears, guiding you through the next steps. However, to make the password recovery process the easiest, choose Send via email code and click Continue. Then, check the inbox in the Gmail account that you registered with Facebook from the beginning.

Step 5: Usually, in just a few seconds, Facebook will immediately send an email containing a verification code to restore your account.

Your task is to remember this code (usually 6 digits) and then return to the Facebook login screen to enter the security code > Select Continue.

Step 6: After correctly entering the code sent to your email, a new window will appear for you to set a new password for your Facebook account. Enter the new password you want to use for this account and select Continue. When finished, your account has been completely restored.

Once the new password is set, you can login to your Facebook account normally.

Some important notes to help you avoid being hacked

To avoid losing your Facebook account or accounts on other social networking platforms such as Zalo, Instagram, or Twitter, making it difficult to recover, you should be highly vigilant from the beginning with a few important notes below:

    • Use a strong password: Passwords should be 8 to 16 characters long, including uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. This will increase security and protect your Facebook account from hacking risks.
    • Enable two-factor authentication (2FA): Enabling two-factor authentication will make it easier for you to control whether there are unauthorized individuals attempting to infiltrate.
    • Check login activity: Facebook provides a feature that allows users to track the devices and locations where you have logged in before. Checking IP addresses and devices that have logged in can help you quickly identify any unusual activities.
    • Be cautious with malicious links: Stay away from clicking on links or downloading attachments from questionable sources on Facebook. At present, there is no shortage of fake websites that try every way to deceive you into revealing login information.

    Summary

With the instructions on how to recover a hacked Facebook account that FPT Shop has just shared above, we hope that if one day this problem occurs with your Facebook account, you can stay calm and apply the methods that have been instructed to recover your account as quickly as possible.
