Sugar Trap
This is a little trick you can also apply if there are not many ants coming in. You just need to place the sugar jar in a dry place and open the lid of the jar. Then gently tap around the jar. When you see the ants moving, they will try to find a way out.
Use chopsticks, stainless steel spoons
When you detect ants, grab a chopstick/spoon that can be made of bamboo, wood, or stainless steel, then stick it deep into the jar to attract the ants.
Gradually, you will see the ants attach to the chopstick. Just wait until they are attached, then gently remove the chopstick to avoid them from falling back into the sugar jar. Shake off the ants on the chopstick/spoon elsewhere. Continue to do this until there are no more ants, then stop.
To be more effective, you can also use another food such as cake, candy to “seduce” the ants and lure them out through the chopstick in the direction you want.
Use paper, newspaper
This method of repelling ants is also simple, you just need a clean sheet of paper or newspaper, pour out the sugar and spread it evenly, then leave it in a dry place or expose it to the sun. After that, gently tap to make the ants crawl out. When all the ants are gone, put the sugar back into the jar.
Expose the sugar jar to strong sunlight
Ants are afraid of strong sunlight, so when the sugar jar is invaded by ants, you can open the lid of the jar and take it out into the sun for about 10 minutes. You will surely be surprised when you come back to check.
Use garlic
Ants hate the smell of garlic, so you can use garlic to drive ants out of the sugar jar. Just crush a few cloves of garlic and put them into the sugar jar, then tap the jar to make the ants automatically crawl out.
Heat the sugar jar
This is probably the method that most housewives use whenever ants crawl into the sugar jar in the kitchen. We just need to open the lid of the jar, place it next to the gas stove, and then turn on a small fire sufficient to heat the sugar jar. Wait a few minutes, and the ants will crawl out one by one because they are hot.
However, you should keep the fire small enough to heat the sugar jar, do not use a medium or large fire, as it will cause the sugar to burn and the ants to die inside.
To prevent ants from crawling into the sugar jar, you can
Use lemon, orange, or mandarin peels: Place lemon or orange peels around the sugar jar, with the aromatic smell of the peel, the ants will not dare to approach. To increase effectiveness, you can gently squeeze the peel to release more essential oils or place them directly on the jar’s surface.
Use water: Place a bowl of water or a dish of water under the sugar jar, adding an object underneath the bowl of water before placing the jar on it to prevent water from sticking to it.
Use ground pepper: Sprinkle some ground pepper around the sugar jar, ants will not dare to come near and will have to find another direction because they are afraid of the strong spicy smell of pepper.
Use flour or salt: Sprinkle a little flour or salt around the sugar jar or the path that ants usually take, and they will stay away and find another direction, not daring to crawl into your sugar jar anymore.
Ants usually do not like the smell of salt and flour, so they will stay away from places that have these two things.
Use tape to trap ants: Stick a double-sided tape under the feet of the sugar jar, as soon as the ants approach, they will stick to the tape and cannot escape. When the tape is full of ants, you just need to remove the tape and replace it with another piece.
