Sometimes, even though you have tried many methods such as cleaning, using air freshener, cleaning solution, spraying,… you still can’t get rid of the unpleasant odor in the bathroom. In this case, you can try using balloons, which may sound strange but can be quite effective.
Use balloons to block the sewer odor
Balloons don’t have the function of deodorizing, but they help prevent the odor from rising. There are many ways to block it, but using balloons is very convenient. Follow these steps:
First, you need to prepare a balloon. Then, remove the drainage cap from the sewer.
Use scissors to cut the bottom of the balloon. Just cut a little, no need to cut too much.
Place the sewer cap on the tail of the balloon (as shown in the picture).
Cut a small section at the mouth of the balloon to allow water to flow down easily, preventing the odor from rising.
Now you just need to attach the sewer cap with the balloon in its correct position.
Mechanism of odor prevention: Balloons are elastic, so water can still flow through the pipes normally, but when the water is gone, the mouth of the balloon contracts, preventing the odor from rising. In this way, the sewer mouth will be sealed, preventing odors as well as some small insects from flying up. When the balloon is stretched too much, you can replace it with a new one.
Some effective ways to eliminate bathroom odors
In addition to using balloons, you can also apply some other methods to keep the bathroom clean and odor-free.
First, pour water into a plastic bag and tie it tightly, then place the bag directly over the sewer or the drain hole of the bathroom.
Second, place a cup of vinegar near the drain or pour vinegar directly into the pipe to reduce the unpleasant odor. When pouring vinegar, temporarily do not flush the water to avoid diluting the vinegar.
The third method is to use baking soda and lemon to accelerate the decomposition of waste and dirt in the pipes, thereby effectively eliminating odors. With this method, you need to pour a mixture of baking soda and lemon directly into the sewer, cover the cap overnight, and flush the water the next morning.
Another method is to use peppermint oil. Peppermint oil, besides its soothing and pain-relieving functions, can also be used to effectively eliminate odors. With this method, you just need to place an open bottle of peppermint oil in a corner of the bathroom, and the unpleasant odors will disappear.
Besides using balloons, you can try these methods: place a plastic bag filled with water over the sewer or drain hole; use vinegar by placing a cup near the drain or pouring it directly into the pipe; accelerate waste decomposition with baking soda and lemon by pouring the mixture into the sewer and flushing the next morning; or use peppermint oil by leaving an open bottle in the bathroom to eliminate odors.
