Positioning the Dinh Lang Plant
The Dinh Lang plant is a familiar sight in Vietnamese households. This versatile plant is easy to grow and adapts to various soil types and climates. Aside from its aesthetic value, the plant has culinary and medicinal uses. Its leaves can be used as a herb, added to salads, spring rolls, or cooked in soups. Dinh Lang is also known for its medicinal properties, providing health benefits for the elderly, convalescents, and postpartum women, and helping alleviate headaches.

With its moderate height, the Dinh Lang plant won’t obstruct your view or block your home’s features. Its lush green leaves remain vibrant year-round, only turning yellow when they age. This plant is relatively low-maintenance, resistant to pests and diseases, and thrives with minimal care.
In feng shui, the Dinh Lang plant is believed to ward off negative energy and attract positive energy and wealth. It is considered a “guardian of wealth” for families, bringing good fortune and prosperity.

The Dinh Lang plant boasts a beautiful shape, with lush leaves that remain green throughout the year and a subtle fragrance. It creates a sense of comfort and enhances living spaces. The ideal spot for this plant is in the front yard or just outside the house.
When placing the plant in front of your house, ensure it doesn’t block the pathway or the front view of your home. The area in front of your house attracts positive energy and should be kept open and bright. If planting near the house, position the plant slightly off to the side or in pairs for a balanced look.
Additionally, avoid planting Dinh Lang directly against a wall. Instead, opt for a spot with ample sunlight as this plant thrives in sunny conditions.
If you’re growing the plant in a pot, the best places to put it are on the balcony, porch, or rooftop, where it can receive ample sunlight to flourish.
For indoor placement, position the potted plant near a window in the living room to ensure it receives sufficient sunlight. If you wish to place it in the bedroom, choose a smaller-sized plant and keep it near the window. Before going to bed, move the pot to the balcony or open the window to prevent a stuffy feeling in the room, as the plant absorbs oxygen and releases carbon dioxide.
Notes on Growing Dinh Lang
Dinh Lang is easy to cultivate. You can propagate it by cutting a healthy branch from a mature plant (at least 2 years old) that is free from pests and diseases. Cut a 10-cm long piece and plant it in well-aerated soil enriched with compost or NPK fertilizer.
After planting the branch, water it lightly and cover it with straw or water hyacinth to maintain moisture and add humus to the soil.
New leaves will start to sprout after about 25-30 days. The best time to plant Dinh Lang is from January to April.
Ensure the planting area has good drainage to prevent waterlogging, which can cause root rot. If growing in a pot, make sure it has a drainage hole.
From the second year onwards, prune the plant twice a year, once in April and once in September.
If you’re growing Dinh Lang for its roots, you can start harvesting from the third year onwards, as this is when the roots are most nutritious. The ideal harvesting period is from October to December. After harvesting, you can retain the healthy stems for future propagation.
