The personality and intelligence of children are shaped by various factors such as physicality, nurture, educational environment… But since childhood, the signs of children have been closely associated with their future characteristics. There are signs in children that adults consider strange, tiring, and annoying, but they are actually signs of an intelligent baby. We grow up and forget when we were little, so sometimes we force our children to be like us. Education experts advise you to look more closely. There is a characteristic that shows the intelligence of children but is often mistaken for mischievousness, not understanding that is: The child likes to repeat and remind about something.
The elderly sometimes repeat because they don’t remember what they just said, and sometimes they lose information in their minds, only the information remains. But it’s different for young children. Young children are absorbing information into their heads.
So when they hear adults speak, children may repeat, when they hear music, a children’s program also repeats. This is learning to speak and practice remembering, not just climbing children.
There are questions that children keep asking their parents, sometimes they ask again and again. There are stories that children keep asking to read over and over again. The process of repetition – remembering – imitating is a process of human thinking and memory development. We also have to remember by repeating, we just repeat ourselves instead of asking others like children do. For young children, the process of repeating can help them establish neural connections in the brain and enhance their memory. This characteristic of children is closely related to reading and remembering later on. They are essential for the child’s brain.
When children often show that, it shows that the child’s thinking is continuous and the child’s brain is developing. The process of repetition helps children remember more and understand more about the story. Just like children asking a lot, asking sideways, asking strangely to understand the issue clearly. Those babies are called “brain-active” ones. Children who don’t activate their brains are usually too obedient and often more innocent.
Handling for parents
Parents should not rush to anger when their children repeat what they say. It may just be a way for the child to learn and remember information.
If the child asks many questions, give the child an answer, or open up more thinking for the child to find the answer or ask higher-level questions. If you can’t answer, make an appointment with your child at another time and remember to fulfill it. If the child suggests reading the story again, it means the child likes that story and wants to fully absorb it, don’t be surprised and angry.
Regularly let your child read simple comic books appropriate for their age. While reading, let the child observe the illustrated images to absorb both language and images. Ask questions and stimulate the child’s imagination by not reading continuously, but reading and asking the child about the situation for the child to predict and imagine.
