Ingredients for Pickled Turnips
– 2 large white turnips (about 1kg)
– 1 carrot
– 1 bottle of white vinegar
– 0.5 kg of white sugar
– 2 teaspoons of salt
– 1 small chili pepper
How to Make Pickled Turnips
Step 1: Preparation
Peel and wash the turnips and carrots. Cut them into finger-like sticks or slices, as desired.
Step 2: Salt Marinade
Add about 2-3 teaspoons of salt and mix well.
Let the mixture sit until the turnips release some water. Once they have released a small amount of water, squeeze out the excess liquid.
Step 3: Vinegar Brine
Place the salted and drained turnips into a clean container.
Add a dash of soy sauce and dark soy sauce, along with the sugar. Let it sit overnight, and then taste it. If it’s not sweet enough, add more sugar.
Pour in the white vinegar until it almost reaches the surface of the turnips.
Cover the container and store it in the refrigerator. Optionally, add a small chili pepper for some spice.
The pickled turnips are now ready to be enjoyed! They have a delightful crunch and a perfect balance of sweet and sour flavors. For an extra touch, drizzle some sesame oil over them before serving.
Happy pickling, and bon appétit!
