Get ready for an exciting conclusion to 2024 as the ‘Tinh Hoa Viet Du Ky’ program on Shopee Live signs off for the year with its upcoming livestream on December 15th.

In this special episode, the show will be taking us on a journey through three captivating provinces: Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh. For 23-year-old Bao Ngoc, a loyal fan of the program, this is an eagerly anticipated trip. She shares, “I’ve been following the show since its early days, and I’m constantly amazed by the richness of Vietnam’s produce. The stories of local businesses and their entrepreneurial spirit have been a huge source of inspiration for me and many other viewers.”

Ngoc also eagerly awaits the showcase of her hometown, Thanh Hoa. While the province is renowned for its talented footballers and mouthwatering nem chua, Ngoc believes there’s more to uncover. With a coastline stretching about 100km, one of Thanh Hoa’s gems is the Khuc Phu fishing village, renowned for its 200-year-old tradition of crafting “ocean droplets” in the form of fish sauce.

A closer look at the Khuc Phu fishermen selecting and purchasing raw materials for their fish sauce.

“People often talk about fish sauce from Phu Quoc or Phan Thiet, but did you know that my hometown, Thanh Hoa, also has a traditional fish sauce craft? And our specialty, mam tom (shrimp paste), is absolutely delicious,” Ngoc proudly shares. Whenever she returns to Hanoi from her hometown, she brings along Thanh Hoa’s specialties as gifts for her friends and colleagues. “I usually get fish sauce and shrimp paste from the Le Gia brand. Everyone who tries it absolutely loves it,” she adds.

Le Gia shrimp paste – the only product from Thanh Hoa to receive a 5-star OCOP rating – will be featured on the ‘Tinh Hoa Viet Du Ky’ livestream on December 15th, along with other specialties like fish sauce, fermented shrimp paste with baby clams, and more.

Sharing similar sentiments is 20-year-old Thanh Nhan, who is thrilled that his hometown, Ha Tinh, will be showcased in the upcoming episode. Ha Tinh boasts not only historical sites like Ngã Ba Đồng Lộc and Chua Huong Tich but also a plethora of unique culinary delights.

Nhan shares, “If I were to take my friends on a tour of Ha Tinh, besides showing them the beautiful sights, I’d definitely take them on a food tour to taste local specialties like ram (a type of fried spring roll), banh muot, chao canh, and banh ngao.”

Nhan’s favorite is ram, a dish similar to northern Vietnam’s nem ran or southern Vietnam’s cha gio, but with a distinct twist—the wrapper is made from rice and molasses. Since moving to Hanoi for university, Nhan has craved the taste of his mother’s homemade ram as he hasn’t been able to find the authentic Ha Tinh-style wrapper in his new neighborhood.

“What sets Ha Tinh ram apart is the wrapper. It has a subtle fragrance from the rice and a hint of sweetness from the molasses. Thankfully, I can now find authentic Ha Tinh ram and molasses on the upcoming Shopee livestream, so I don’t have to miss the flavors of home,” Nhan smiles.

Meanwhile, 28-year-old Phuong Thanh, a native of Nghe An, takes pride in her province’s abundant natural resources, including over 1,000 rare and valuable medicinal plant species. “Not many people know that the Pu Mat National Park in Nghe An is one of the largest biosphere reserves in Southeast Asia,” she shares. “With its ideal soil and climate conditions, it’s a haven for medicinal herbs with high therapeutic properties.”

Two of the most prized herbs from Nghe An are ca gai leo (a type of vine) and day thia canh (a shrub), commonly brewed into tea. Phuong Thanh adds, “I’ve seen my grandparents and parents drink tea made from these herbs since I was little. Besides detoxifying the liver, the tea has numerous health benefits. Whenever I have guests from afar, I gift them some of this tea.”

Don’t miss the chance to grab 4-star OCOP-rated herbal tea made from ca gai leo and day thia canh, grown at an altitude of 800m above sea level in the Pu Mat National Park, during the upcoming ‘Tinh Hoa Viet Du Ky’ livestream.

Mark your calendars and tune in to the next episode of ‘Shopee – Tinh Hoa Viet Du Ky’ at 12:30 PM on December 15th to explore the unique specialties and cultural treasures of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh.
