Packed with vitamin C, lemons are powerful disinfectants and deodorizers thanks to their citric acid content – a natural, potent cleaning agent. If you haven’t tried cleaning with lemons yet, now is the time to start.

On Instagram, popular cleaning blogger @juliahunt shared the five areas in her home that she regularly cleans using lemons. Let’s explore this effective, safe, and non-toxic cleaning method:

1. Kitchen Sink and Faucet

After cooking, the sink is often left with grease and bacteria. Julia suggests cutting a lemon in half, sprinkling some baking soda on the cut surface, and scrubbing the sink and faucet directly.

This combination effectively removes stubborn stains and disinfects due to the acidic nature of lemons and the mild abrasiveness of baking soda.

2. Bathroom Sink Limescale

If you live in an area with hard water, your bathroom sink and faucet are prone to limescale buildup (from calcium and magnesium). The citric acid in lemons will break down and dissolve these deposits quickly. Simply cut a lemon, add some baking soda, and scrub the affected areas.

3. Bathroom Shower Glass or Curtain

Soap scum and water stains on shower glass can be easily cleaned with a mixture of lemon and baking soda. After scrubbing, rinse with clean water and wipe dry with a squeegee to prevent new water stains.

If you have a fabric shower curtain, you can soak it in warm water for 20 minutes and then scrub the moldy areas with lemon. Rinse and repeat if necessary.

4. Wooden Cutting Boards

Lemons are also great for cleaning wooden cutting boards. Sprinkle some coarse salt on the board, then scrub with half a lemon to remove bacteria and stains. After cleaning, Julia suggests applying a layer of coconut oil to moisturize and prevent the wood from cracking.

5. Oven Deodorizing and Cleaning

Place a tray of water and a few lemon slices in the oven, then turn the temperature to 200°C for 20 minutes. The lemon steam will help soften and loosen built-up grease.

Subsequently, use half a lemon with baking soda to scrub away oven stains – it’s quick, effective, and non-toxic.
