1. Check the expiration date:

The packaging of the product (if you buy pre-packaged tofu in the supermarket) always indicates the expiration date and storage method. Tofu sold in regular markets are usually made and sold on the same day.

2. Storage method:

For fresh tofu purchased at the market, after washing it thoroughly, put them in a container, pour cold water to cover the tofu, then tightly cover the lid and place it in the refrigerator. Change the water for the tofu container every day to keep them moist and fresh.

Pre-packaged tofu should be refrigerated promptly upon purchase and should remain unopened until ready for use. Any leftover tofu, once opened, can be stored in a sealed container in a similar manner as fresh tofu.

3. How long can tofu be stored?

If stored properly in the refrigerator, tofu will remain fresh and usable for seven to ten days.

You can also store tofu in the freezer. First, cut the tofu into suitable pieces for your intended use, put them in separate plastic bags, and place them in the freezer. This way, you can keep the freshness of tofu for up to 5 months.

Do not throw away tofu when the water you poured into the container turns slightly yellow. This yellow color is caused by the thickened soy milk from inside the tofu. It will spoil after being soaked in water for a while. However, if the tofu has been stored in the refrigerator for more than ten days, you should not use it anymore because the quality of the tofu is no longer guaranteed.

– If the purchased tofu tastes slightly sour, you should not use it as it may not have been stored at the proper temperature and has gone bad.
