1 Light Restriction
When it comes to promoting the blooming of flowers, it’s important to control the amount of sunlight they receive. In your garden, you can use tarpaulins or corrugated iron roofs to block direct sunlight from reaching the flowers. Alternatively, you can bring the flower pots indoors or place them in darker areas. This method works well for chrysanthemums, apricot flowers, and poinsettias.
2 Temperature Restriction
Some flowers, like apricot flowers and peach blossoms, are not very sensitive to light. For these flowers, it’s important to regulate the temperature to slow down their blooming process. The ideal temperature for flower storage should be between 18-24 degrees Celsius. Once the flowers start to bloom, you can lower the temperature to 8-15 degrees Celsius.
Reducing the temperature in this way essentially puts the flowers to “sleep” and prevents them from blooming too early. This temperature-reducing method can also be applied to other flowers like carnations, hibiscus, sunflowers, and azaleas, but not gladiolus.
3 Dry Environment
You can create a dry environment for the flowers by placing them in a house with air conditioning or using dehumidifiers. This inhibits the growth of the plants by depriving them of the necessary conditions to thrive, resulting in slower blooming.
4 Pruning Branches
Pruning the branches during the flower’s growth season can also delay blooming. Removing buds or picking them can help control the plant’s growth and flowering. This method prevents nutrients from moving from the leaves to the roots, which slows down the plant’s growth.
5 Limit Watering
Limiting watering is a common method used to inhibit the flowering of succulents like cacti and porcelain flowers. This method can also be applied to apricot flowers. Around October-November each year, you can start reducing the amount of water given to the apricot trees to slow down the blooming process.
Right before Tet, only water the plants enough to keep them moist. The amount of water needed may vary depending on the weather conditions each year.
In addition to the mentioned methods, there are many other folklore tips that you can learn from relatives, friends, or those with experience. It would be wonderful to have all the flowers in your house bloom together during the first days of the new year, wouldn’t it?
