What is March 8th?

The history of March 8th stems from the strong movement for the rights of American female workers. In 1908, 15,000 female workers marched in New York City demanding higher wages, reduced working hours, and the right to vote.
A year later, the Socialist Party of America designated February 28th as National Women’s Day. In 1910, at the International Women’s Congress in Copenhagen, Denmark, representatives from 17 countries agreed to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8th each year.
This day of celebration was first observed in 1911 in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland.
