Before every trip, packing luggage is a given but it’s also the thing that gives women the most headaches because they don’t know what to bring and how much is enough.
And here’s the ideal way to efficiently pack a suitcase, maximizing space and keeping clothes in the best condition for travel.
A trip can be exciting and fun, but getting your belongings organized for that is not a certainty. (Illustrative image)
1. Before packing, make sure you are allowed to bring how many kilograms of luggage on the plane
Check carefully the weight of the luggage allowed to be carried when flying (each airline and each class of ticket will have different regulations, so search based on the information of the ticket you booked).
Try to weigh the carry-on luggage before the trip. You can even use a regular scale: Just weigh yourself first, then step on the scale and add the luggage. Then subtract your weight. Alternatively, you can be more careful and buy a mini electronic scale specifically for weighing luggage.
Normally, if it’s a low-cost airline, the rules will be stricter for carry-on and personal items. The rules can also change when you travel around European countries.
2. Pack heavy items at the bottom of the bag
This will help reduce potential wrinkles on your clothes and everything tends to be neater during the flight.
3. Wear your bulkiest items instead of packing them
Try to wear the heaviest items at the airport, for example: shoes, boots or heavy winter jackets… In addition, you can carry a sweater/jacket onto the plane if you want to save space in the suitcase or if you have a little excess weight, this will help you avoid penalty fees for overweight luggage.
4. Utilize the space inside your shoes
Underwear, socks or small clothing are the things you can store inside shoes. It saves space and also helps the shoes not to be cramped when you unpack.
Shoes are also a good space to store items such as sunglasses, watches, perfumes and other accessories.
However, remember to keep your shoes clean before packing items like this!
5. Roll belts and store them inside your bag
Try this and see, you will save a lot of space to store other items because it will create gaps. Then, you can comfortably put small items into those gaps.
6. Check all your liquid items and make sure they comply with airport regulations
Make sure none of your liquids, gels, and sprays exceed TSA requirements (usually 3.4 ounces of liquid or 100ml per bottle).
Always check specific rules depending on your destination. For example: when traveling to Europe, all liquids must be packed in a clear zip bag and each person can only use one bag like that.
7. Place everything vertically
When you feel that your bag is full and there is no more empty space, you just need to close the bag, place it vertically and release the top a little.
Along with that, try to squeeze a few more items in because the remaining part of the clothes will be compressed down, creating more space on top.
8. When traveling, don’t bring too much luggage
The key to smart packing is to carefully calculate outfits for the entire trip. Spend some time and organize all the outfits you plan to wear each day. Try to choose some neutral-colored items that can be combined with different outfits, such as comfortable shoes, plain dresses or a simple wallet.
Create a list for each day, take photos of all the outfits and save them on your phone. You can even put each outfit into a separate bag and label it with the day of the week so you don’t have to search through the entire bag.
9. Allocate space for a laundry bag
Don’t forget to pack an extra bag for dirty laundry.
Nothing is worse than mixing all the clothes in the suitcase. You don’t know which pants are clean, which pants are dirty, and when you get home, you will have to wash everything.
10. Rolling clothes helps save space
This method not only helps save space in the suitcase but also helps clothes wrinkle less. In addition, it also creates gaps and you can completely stuff small/thin items between them.
11. Vacuum compression bags can help you squeeze clothes tighter, making them less bulky
If you really need to transport a large number of clothes, you may need to consider using vacuum compression bags.
They work like a vacuum cleaner and suck the air out of the clothes. That way, you can bring a lot of things, especially suitable for winter clothes. This also means you will need to spend a little money to buy these bags, but rest assured that buying them is much cheaper than paying extra for luggage at the airport or having to leave behind the items you really need/like.
Hopefully, with the above small tips, you will be able to pack clothes more easily and quickly!
