“Foods You Should Never Refrigerate, According to an Expert”
Social media sensation Cory Rodriguez, known as Health WithCory, has revealed in a widely shared video that there are certain foods “you should never refrigerate.” He uses the example of honey, explaining that honey can crystallize and harden when chilled. “Honey is best kept at room temperature,” he says.
Cory also points out that while many people often store tomatoes in the fridge, they are better off kept on the kitchen counter. “Tomatoes will lose their flavor and turn mushy if refrigerated, so keep them on your countertop,” he explains. The expert also advises against refrigerating coffee as it can absorb odors from other foods. “Coffee should be stored away from the refrigerator and moisture,” he adds.

Another food that doesn’t need refrigeration is hot sauce. “Hot sauce has enough vinegar to prevent bacterial growth, so it’s fine to leave it out. Plus, the peppers will have a more robust flavor at room temperature,” Cory explains.
Potatoes are also on the list of foods that shouldn’t be refrigerated. “Cold temperatures can break down the starches in potatoes, affecting their flavor,” he says. Cory recommends storing potatoes in a cool, dark place, but not in the fridge. For garlic and onions, he also emphasizes: “Garlic and onions should be kept out of the fridge, and you should buy them from outside the refrigerated section as well.”
The health expert explains that while these storage tips are ideal for keeping food fresh, they also depend on your climate and indoor temperatures. Comments on the video quickly poured in, with many sharing their surprise about refrigerating coffee. One TikTok user commented, “Who puts coffee in the fridge… that’s unbelievable!” Another agreed: “Tomatoes do taste better when left on the countertop.” A third mentioned eggs, saying, “Supermarkets don’t refrigerate eggs, so you don’t need to either.”
