1. Separate white clothes from colored clothes
This is an important task that many people tend to overlook. The pigments from colored clothes can bleed and stain white clothes. And they are often difficult to clean.
To make laundry easier and avoid having to sort through a smelly pile of dirty clothes, you can wash the two types of clothes separately.
2. Put delicate items like lingerie in a laundry bag
The spinning motion of washing machines can be harsh on delicate items like lace lingerie or mesh clothes, causing them to stretch or tear over time. You don’t necessarily have to hand wash – just put them in a laundry bag and toss them in the washing machine.
3. Use the right amount of detergent to avoid damaging clothes
Many people tend to guess the amount of ingredients needed when cooking or baking. But you should use the right amount of detergent when doing laundry. Too much detergent not only causes skin irritation but also leaves residue in the washing machine, leading to faster machine degradation. On the other hand, using too little detergent will result in clothes not being clean and having an unpleasant odor.
4. Deal with stains on clothes before washing
Whether it’s food, blood, or paint, you should remove stains on clothes before washing. Don’t just toss dirty clothes into the washing machine. Pour detergent or stain remover directly onto the stained area, gently rub the stain from the outside in to prevent it from spreading to other parts of the fabric.
5. Turn clothes inside out before putting them in the washing machine
Our sweat and skin cells accumulate inside clothes. Therefore, before washing, you need to turn clothes inside out. Clothes will not deteriorate faster.
6. Hang clothes immediately after washing
If you leave washed clothes sitting without hanging them up, they can become musty and moldy. You may even have to wash them again. It’s best to hang clothes immediately after washing.
7. Avoid overcrowding the washing machine and doing one large load
Stuffing clothes into the washing machine and doing one load may seem like a convenient idea. However, it’s not good at all. There won’t be enough space for clothes to move around and properly remove dirt from the clothes. If you have a large household, it’s best to invest in a larger capacity washing machine.
