Strawberries are delicious fruits with a sweet and tangy taste that appeals to many people. They can be eaten fresh or used to make various delicious treats such as smoothies, ice cream, yogurt, cakes, jam, and candy, all of which are loved by everyone.
When strawberries mature, they can be invaded by insects and bacteria. Therefore, farmers may use pesticides to spray them. When the fruit is ripe and harvested, there is certainly still a residue of pesticides, so it needs to be washed thoroughly before eating. It is best to use a moderate amount of salt in the water to wash the strawberries, as salt has antibacterial properties.
Add salt to the water when washing strawberries
In addition, strawberries are a type of fruit that grows close to the ground, so there is a lot of dirt sticking to the fruit. Salt and water alone cannot remove all of it. Therefore, a method is needed to absorb the dirt on the fruit’s surface. The best solution is to use flour or starch, with flour being cheaper to use.
Therefore, in addition to salt, we should add a little flour to a bowl of water or a basin of cold water. Do not use warm or hot water. Hot water will damage the protective layer on the outside of the strawberry and affect its freshness.
Add flour to the water for soaking strawberries
Then, stir gently, without rubbing, to prevent the strawberries’ skin from being rubbed off. Stir until the salt and flour dissolve completely, with no lumps remaining.
At this point, the salt and flour will evenly adhere to the strawberries. For better results, soak the strawberries for 5 minutes.
Then, rinse the strawberries again with clean water. At this point, you can see that all the strawberries are clean and shiny, without worrying about pesticide residues, so you can enjoy them with peace of mind.
Wishing you success!
