It is important to maintain a healthy and balanced diet, along with adequate rest, to support your body after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine in Ho Chi Minh City. In addition to a good care routine and reasonable rest, a healthy and nutritious diet is essential, and it is advisable to refrain from consuming stimulants such as alcohol, which may interfere with the vaccine’s effectiveness.

1. How long should one wait after vaccination before consuming alcohol?

According to Dr. Nguyen Thanh Phuoc, consuming alcohol immediately after vaccination can weaken the body’s infection-fighting ability, increase the risk of complications, and create challenges in differentiating between vaccine and alcohol-related reactions. Research indicates that alcohol affects the gut microbiota and damages gut immune cells, which form the first line of defense against viruses and bacteria.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova recommended abstaining from alcoholic beverages for 42 days after vaccination, as it may impact the immune system. More recently, Academician Aleksandr Ginsburg, director of the Gamaleya Institute, which developed the Sputnik V vaccine, advised moderation in alcohol consumption while the body is still building immunity. This suggestion applies not only to the Sputnik V vaccine but to any COVID-19 vaccine. However, it is strongly recommended to avoid heavy drinking for at least three days after each vaccine dose.

Ideally, refrain from consuming alcohol for 3–5 days after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, and consider reducing alcohol intake for up to two months to allow your body to generate antibodies against the virus optimally.
