Causes of Toilet Odor

Toilet odor can be caused by several factors, including:

  • Toilets not cleaned for a long time: When toilets are not cleaned regularly, yellow stains can form and contribute to a foul smell. Issues with the smell prevention system may also be a factor.
  • Issues with the septic tank: Gaps left during the reinstallation process can allow gas and foul odors from the septic tank to enter the bathroom.
  • Full septic tank: If the septic tank is full, it can overflow into the pipes and release gas into the toilet. A blocked air vent pipe under the septic tank can also cause odor problems.
  • Other unknown causes: Odors may not necessarily originate from the toilet itself, but from floor drains, vents, or other sources.

Eliminate Odors with Salt or Baking Soda

One simple way to clean the drainage system and eliminate odors is by dissolving some salt in warm water and pouring it into the drain. Baking soda can also be used instead of salt. Regularly doing this once a week can help address accumulated dirt and waste that cause unpleasant odors in the bathroom.

Eliminate Toilet Odor with Lime

Lime can be used to keep the bathroom fresh and odor-free. Squeezing the juice of about 3 limes and pouring it into the toilet, or placing slices of lime and some ice cubes in the toilet, can help eliminate odor. After about 1 hour, flushing the toilet should remove any remaining odor.

Eliminate Toilet Odor with Matches

Using matches can help eliminate the foul smell from the toilet. Lighting a match and dropping it into the toilet allows the sulfur gas to dissipate and eliminate the odor. Afterward, the match can be discarded and hands should be washed.

In addition to cleaning solutions, eucalyptus oil can be used to eliminate toilet odor. Placing a bottle of eucalyptus oil near the toilet can help absorb and dissipate the odor within 2-3 months.
