When it comes to planting flowers in pots, soil quality plays a crucial role. Only when the soil is rich, loose, and well-draining can plants thrive. So how can you make your potting soil loose and rich?

You need to add some special ingredients to your flower potting soil, such as pine needle soil and willow bark. These two can adjust the soil’s acidity and alkalinity, prevent soil compaction, make the soil softer, and retain moisture effectively.

Additionally, you can also mix in materials like perlite and ceramsite to improve water drainage and air circulation, thus prolonging the soil’s lifespan. Some people even use three types of medicine commonly found in their medicine cabinets to make the soil loose, well-draining, and airy. Here are three such medications:

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 has various benefits for plants. Specifically, it can regulate the soil’s acidity and alkalinity, making the soil loose and encouraging root development. Moreover, vitamin B12 also helps plants recover and regenerate by promoting cell regeneration and combating shock caused by transportation or repotting. Additionally, this medication can detoxify plants when they are poisoned.

To use vitamin B12, crush 2-3 tablets, dilute them in 1 liter of water, and water your flower pot with the solution. This will alleviate soil compaction. Watering once a month can also detoxify the plant and provide sufficient nutrients for abundant blooming.

Aspirin

Aspirin, a commonly used medication for pain relief, fever reduction, and inflammation prevention, is known as a “miracle drug” for plants. The primary active ingredient in aspirin is salicylic acid, which plays a vital role in plant growth.

Firstly, salicylic acid can balance the soil’s pH, preventing soil compaction and making the soil looser. Secondly, it stimulates root growth, making roots longer and stronger while preventing root decay. This acid also enhances plant resistance. Most acid-loving flowers and plants such as azaleas, jasmine, violets, and begonias benefit from this medication.

To use aspirin with your plants, crush 1 tablet into powder and dissolve it in 1 liter of water. Water your plants with this solution every three weeks. Alternatively, you can directly spray the solution on the plants in the morning to boost their immune system.

Ferrous sulfate

Ferrous sulfate is a medication with a mild acidic property and a high iron ion content. It prevents and treats iron-deficiency anemia in humans. Moreover, you can supplement plants with ferrous sulfate to prevent yellowing leaves caused by iron deficiency.

Furthermore, this medication can balance the soil’s acidity and alkalinity, prevent soil hardness, and promote root development. To use ferrous sulfate, dilute 2-3 tablets in 1 liter of water and pour the solution directly into the flower pot. If your plant is experiencing leaf yellowing due to iron deficiency, you can use this solution every 20 days until the symptoms improve and return to their normal state.
