Every clip by “Con dau…” has become familiar with the online community, with more than 2.1 million followers and over 33.7 million likes. Through her life hacks and honest conversations, Mrs. Huong has gained popularity on TikTok.
A housewife becomes a TikToker to relieve pressure on her daughter-in-law
In an interview with Thanh Nien, Mrs. Vu Thi Huong (59 years old, residing in Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh City), the owner of the channel, shared that like other housewives, she bought a smartphone and used it to watch livestreams on Facebook to hunt for sales. “Sometimes I buy crappy items and get frustrated,” she laughed. She only takes care of the household chores, cleaning and occasionally appearing in her son’s channel as a supporting actress. Because of her natural voice and acting style, her son, Mr. Nguyen Vu Khoa (31 years old), suggested that she create her own channel “to become the lead actress.”

“My Facebook name is Huong Huong, and when I started TikTok, my son was about to get married, and I was so happy to have a daughter-in-law, so I named myself ‘Me Huong Huong’. At that time, we were facing the Covid-19 pandemic, and my son’s engagement ceremony had to be conducted online, so my daughter-in-law couldn’t come to our house. So, my son and I made some tutorial videos for my daughter-in-law to watch, to relieve the pressure of direct instructions from her mother-in-law,” shared the owner of the TikTok channel with over 2.1 million followers.

Mr. Khoa also mentioned that he initially suggested that his mother start each video by saying “Greetings to all daughters-in-law,” but his mother refused and said, “I only have one daughter-in-law, so I will just call her that.” That’s why all of Mrs. Huong’s videos start with the familiar phrase “daughter-in-law”. From the first video with only 4,000 views, the “homemade crew” consisting of Mrs. Huong and her son persistently created more close, engaging content. A notable milestone is the video on how to prevent Covid-19, which garnered over 6 million views. Since then, some brands have started reaching out to her for product reviews.
“My son and I started earning money from TikTok. I only review products that I have personally tried and found to be good. After taking care of household chores every day, my son and I make one video, and sometimes two videos during the pandemic. Now, my channel uploads 5 videos per week,” happily shared Mrs. Huong.
Treating her daughter-in-law like her own daughter
Having never attended school, Mrs. Huong doesn’t have any training in acting or dialogue delivery. She revealed that all of her videos truly reflect her personality. 99% of her videos feature her wearing orange clothes as a distinctive trait. Since becoming a TikToker, she has encountered people teasing her when she goes out, saying things like “You’re famous now,” and even in Vung Tau and Phu Quoc, some young people recognize her and call her “Mother Huong Huong,” which she finds “very delightful.”
According to Mrs. Huong, the relationship between a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law in modern society is not as strict as in the past. Many mothers-in-law treat their daughters-in-law like their own daughters, and she is one of them. Every day, her daughter-in-law (born in 2001) goes to work, and Mrs. Huong takes care of the house and prepares meals. She said, “I cook for myself and my family, so I cook for them without any problems. On days off, my daughter-in-law still helps with household chores, such as washing the dishes and laundry. When my son helps me with the housework, I don’t feel sorry for him because a couple needs to share the workload to be happy.”

In addition, Mr. Khoa revealed that all the videos on the “Me Huong Huong” channel were recorded and edited using a smartphone. When he reads the comments below the videos and sees many female users asking to become their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Huong usually likes the comments without replying because she’s afraid her daughter-in-law will feel sad if she sees those comments. Then Mr. Khoa laughed and shared a memorable moment, “At the beginning, when my mother started TikTok, many people called her ‘mother-in-law’, which made my wife a little uncomfortable. She told me to read the comments. Look how many people are flirting with me. But now, many people say that my wife is lucky to be the daughter-in-law of Mother Huong. So, my wife finds it interesting and happy to see that Mother Huong is loved by many people.”
