One of the familiar tools that we are going to talk about in this article is the fork.

From ancient times until now, forks have been used in eating, as a utensil like a spoon or chopsticks. However, forks also have many other uses, with the most typical one being a lock, making doors more secure. That’s why you should prepare a lock made from a fork. Phil Crockett shared on YouTube a way to make doors safer with just a fork that we often use to pick up food. This is a perfect method to replace a broken lock on a door and make it more difficult for intruders to enter. Although there are quite a few steps to make a lock from a fork, you only need a few minutes for the whole process. You will need pliers, a hammer, and a hacksaw.

First, make sure that the fork fits the lock hole. Ideally, the width of the fork head is about 2.5cm and the handle is thin. Insert the fork head into the lock hole, use a marker to mark on the fork to see the depth of the lock hole. Then, insert the fork head into the pliers vertically so that the marked part is right in the pliers groove, then use a hammer to hammer until you have a 90-degree angle. Finally, use the hacksaw to cut the fork head and the fork handle into two parts.

Now you have 2 parts of the fork, let’s make a DIY lock for the door. Hook the fork head into the lock, this will be easy because you have hammered the fork head at a 90-degree angle, then insert the fork handle into the fork slot until it can’t be pushed in anymore. And now, you have a self-made secure lock for the door.
