In recent times, some stores have injected or soaked fruits in chemicals to make them ripen faster. This can seriously affect our health if we unfortunately buy these types of fruits. This article will give you some small tips to make fruits ripen quickly without using any chemicals!

Put them in rice

All types of rice can effectively trap ethylene gas. If you put fruits in rice, they will ripen faster than if they are left on the kitchen counter or in paper or nylon bags. What you need to do is bury the fruits deep into the rice. This method should only be applied to completely green fruits or if you want to eat them the next day.

Put fruits in paper bags

The paper bags used for fast food are perfect for ripening fruits quickly. All fruits contain ethylene gas and they will emit gas during the ripening process. By putting fruits in paper bags and loosely tying the mouth of the bag, ethylene gas will not be able to escape, resulting in faster ripening of the fruits.

Keep the bags dry, avoid direct sunlight, and store them at room temperature for optimal results. Once these fruits are ripe, transfer them to the refrigerator to stop the ripening process.

Use cotton fabric

Spread out a cotton towel or cloth and place soft fruits like peaches, plums, or fruits with soft skins on it, leaving a certain gap between the fruits.

Use another cloth to cover the fruits. Wrap the fabric like this until the fruits are soft or have a fragrant smell, then you can eat them.

Use the trick with a ripe apple or banana

If you want fruits to ripen faster, after putting them in a paper bag or nylon bag, you should add a ripe apple or banana to the bag. These two types of fruits release more ethylene than other fruits, so they will accelerate the ripening process of fruits in the same bag.

Soaking in water


For persimmons, if you want them to ripen faster, you have to soak them in lukewarm water.

Note:

All of these methods can be applied to the following fruits: avocado, papaya, banana, peach, pear, plum, pineapple, tomato, and custard apple.

Other fruits like apple, blueberry, cherry, grape, pomegranate, strawberry, mangosteen, watermelon, orange, lemon, lime, and grapefruit cannot be ripened at home using these methods. These fruits are best ripened on the tree, so after buying them, it is best to refrigerate them to avoid wasting them because they have become overripe before you have a chance to eat them.
