After a period of use, pillow fillings often have yellow stains, mold, and even unpleasant odors. However, people often only pay attention to changing pillowcases, bed sheets, or duvet covers regularly by week or month, forgetting that the pillow filling also needs to be cleaned, as it also affects your skin, breath, and sleep quality.

<p style=Why do pillow fillings turn yellow?

The pillow filling is wrapped in a rather thick pillowcase, and this layer of pillowcase is also washed quite frequently, so why are there still yellow stains, mold, and unpleasant odors after a period of use?

The reason is that dead cells and sweat from the face and scalp, the layer of oil and cosmetics on the skin, dust, and bacteria in the bedroom… adhere to the pillowcase and gradually seep into the pillow filling every day. The pillowcase only slows down the appearance of stains on the pillow filling but does not prevent this process.

The stains and odors will directly affect your sleep, making it difficult for you to sleep deeply, causing fatigue and lethargy. Dust and bacteria, mold are the causes that make your skin become irritated, redness, hidden acne, and more serious conditions such as asthma, allergic rhinitis.

Effective ways to clean pillow fillings

To clean the pillow fillings, you can apply the following measures:

Mix laundry detergent with warm water in a ratio of 1:4, use this mixture to soak the pillow filling for about 30-40 minutes, then put it in the washing machine to clean.

Vinegar is also an effective way to clean pillow fillings, as vinegar has the ability to remove stains safely. You need to prepare 1/2 cup of vinegar, 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide, and a tablespoon of detergent.

Dissolve the detergent and water and soak the pillow filling for about 10 minutes. Then, add hydrogen peroxide and vinegar to the mixture, soak for about 5 minutes, then put it in the washing machine and start the washing cycle.

Another way to clean pillow fillings is to use bleach, detergent. You need to prepare 1 tablespoon of detergent, 1 cup of dishwashing liquid, 1 cup of laundry bleach, 1/2 cup of baking soda, and hot water, mix them together and soak the pillow filling for about 10 minutes.

Gently squeeze the pillow filling to clean the stains. Repeat this process several times until the pillow filling is completely clean, then rinse with water.

You can also clean the pillow fillings with baking soda: Mix 100g of baking soda with 500ml of warm water, add a cap of laundry detergent, 1 lemon or 100ml of white vinegar, soak the pillow filling for about 15-20 minutes, then put it in warm water and gently squeeze. Rinse with water multiple times to clean the stains and baking soda residue.

Notes when cleaning pillow fillings

– Do not use overly strong detergents to clean the pillow fillings to avoid damaging them.

– Wash and dry the pillow fillings on sunny days, however, do not expose them directly to sunlight but keep them in the shade to prevent the pillow fillings from changing color and reducing quality.

– Do not dry the pillow fillings at too high a temperature.

– Dry the pillow fillings thoroughly before using them because using damp pillow fillings will cause mold.
